LAFAYETTE -- The proposed state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage passed statewide with 78 percent of the vote, according to complete but unofficial returns.

The final totals Saturday: 618,869, or 78 percent, voted for the amendment, and 177,145, or 22 percent, voted against.

It baffles me that this is still a huge thing. Some gay couple needs to sue the state of Louisiana, take it all the way up to the supreme court, and have it decreed unconstitutional for thei marriage to be forbidden...because it is absolutely unconstitutional! That's why I don't fret over gay rights--it's only a matter of time before they are allowed, in my opinion.
