At what age do you think a father and daughter should quit showering together and why did you pick that age?

IF and when either one of them becomes sexually stimulated, they should quit showering together. But otherwise, I don't really see any problem with it. Even though it might be a bit unusual in our culture for a father to shower with his post-pubic daughter, that's just our culture, and has nothing to do with the appropriateness of it.

I agree, but we should note that many modern showers are not designed for this kind of thing. Most showers in homes in America, for example, are desgined for one person to comfortably bathe. They really are not designed for two adults (or one adult and one teenager), and the close quarters are conducive very well to sexual contact.

Public bathing establishments, particularly mixed (male/female/other) bathing would allow for less emphasis on the nudity of the father and daughter (or anyone else), and attention would be more focused on bathing itself.

I have a multi-cultural family with differing POV's on the subject and wanted to throw the question out for the mighty RF.

    What's your opinion?

I just don't know how to answer that in a blanket statement.

...might depend on the people involved on a case-by-case basis...

I personally don't view nudity as a bad thing. ...But still, I don't know how to answer that question...

I would say when signs of puberty begin to show. It is hard to pick a specific age because girls reach puberty at different ages. I remember when I was little I used to run around the house naked and then one day my mom stopped me and said I was getting to be a big girl now. I felt self-conscious because I knew my body was changing. I felt like I was no longer daddy's little girl. Now, I know that no matter what I'll always be daddy's little girl. :p Ah well, soon I will have my husband's house to run around naked in (when the in-laws are not around of course). :D

well, if the shower is big enough, and there is nothing sexual about it, then go ahead. my shower stall is so small if there WAS someone else in there....well...lets just say the only other person I would allow in there with me would have to be my girlfriend, lol and then it would have to be when no one else is in the house...oh! and we would have to- .....ok I'll br quiet now :D

I don't think I would ever shower with my daughter. Anything past 2 years old is just weird to me.

I think the child will let you know. My son got to a certain age and things just changed, he was more private about his body around me. I think the time comes to them on their own.

On this one, I'd personally go with the Japanese point of view, Nutshell, because my intuition tells me "the family that splashes together sticks together". To get clinical about it: Showering is usually a pleasant activity, and so your daughters are likely to develope fond memories of showering with their dad. I not only see nothing wrong with that, I think it's a positive thing.

I'm not sure that's the case. Some kids are very curious about the human body and will continue showering with parents as long as you let them.

All kids are curious yes I agree but most arive at an age where mom or dad is not who they are curious about anymore. I am no pro but me and my son are very open. I am sure at one point he looked at me with interest as any boy but not anymore. If they are raised in a healthy way everything works out.

I gotta admit I don't remember me or any of my peers talking about such a thing toward our moms... . That doesn't sound healthy to me.

I myself am personally opposed to raising kids in a healthy way. Raising them to be dysfunctional creates far more interesting people than does raising them to be healthy. Have you ever read a novel about a healthy person? Boring!

Well Victor I remember seeing my dad by accident and yes I was curious. Not sexually attracted to him but curious there is a difference. If a boy sees boobs he sees boobs he will be curious. I think you are reading it wrong. If you make naked not such a big deal they won't either. My son is no way attracted to me...lol.

I hope I did read it wrong, but you did say:
I am sure at one point he looked at me with interest

Not sure how else I can take that...

So you never remeber as a child seeing any part of your mother or father and looking at them with interest. It is obvious your mother had body parts that you did not so your telling me you would not be curious what they were...yes you are reading more into it then there is but that is up to you.
