For it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than holocausts. (Hosea 6:6)
READINGS:
1. Hosea 6:3-6
2. Romans 4:18-25
3. Matthew 9:9-13
REFLECTION: There are many images of God. For some, there are childhood images of fear, of judgment, keeping count of sins. Some experience God as a loving presence. These people, instead of trying to earn Gods love, rest in his presence and enjoy being with God. Love is the foundation of the spiritual life. Sacrifice is at times necessary but accepted with thought of growth in love.
PRAYER: God, grant us the gift of your loving presence. Help us to see the cross in our lives as a means to greater love for you and others. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:
Monday:
Spend some time today on your growth in knowledge of God. Read some materials available in your church or search the Internet for articles about God.
Tuesday:
Prepare and enjoy a special summer meal with your family or/and friends.
Wednesday:
Pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary with the family. Pray for understanding of crosses received.
Thursday:
Show your love for God today by doing something special for a neighbor or friend.
Friday:
Read today the Old Testament, Hosea. Reflect on the reading.
Saturday:
Attend Mass today in honor of the Blessed Mother.
PRAYER: Lord, you are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. Turn toward us, have mercy on us, and give us your strength. Amen.
