May 1, 2005, Sixth Sunday of Easter

“The Father will send another Advocate . . . the spirit of truth. You know him because he is with you; he is in you.” (John 14)

    READINGS:
    1. Acts 8:5-8, 14-17
    2. 1 Peter 3:15-18
    3. John 14:15-21

REFLECTION: In this Sunday’s gospel Jesus gives us a list of promises:

I will ask the Father and he will send you another
    Advocate.

He will be with you forever.

I will not leave you alone.

I will come back to you.

    You will see me again.

    My Father will love you.

I also will love you and will show myself to you.

PRAYER: Father, you continually raised up your faithful to the glory of holiness. In your love, enkindle in us the fire of your Holy Spirit. Amen.

    FAMILY DISCUSSION/ACTIVITY:

    Monday:
What can you do today with your family to proclaim Jesus’ presence among us?

    Tuesday:
What one talent that I have could I use today in serving the Lord?

    Wednesday:
Pray the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary for peace in the world.

    Thursday:
Get a book today that you can use for spiritual reading each day.

    Friday:
Read the Acts of the Apostles from the New Testament.

    Saturday:
Do something today for the needy.

PRAYER: Father, you promised to send your Holy Spirit into our lives to be with us forever. Help us to become more aware of his presence, especially in difficult times. Amen.
