Ex-rebel sworn in as Colombia's president in historic shift : NPR

I would have put this in the section "South American Politics," except there isn't one.

He stated that the U.S. War on Drugs in Colombia has been a "big failure."

He also wants to slow deforestation and reduce the country's reliance on fossil fuels.

The article noted a trend of leftist politicians and political outsiders who have been winning elections in Latin America.

At least 10 heads of state are expected to attend Petro's inauguration, but Biden will not be one of them.

Blimmin heck. Good luck Petro and Colombia. Let's hope the CIA don't need to liberate the country.

I dont know much about Petro, but I feel cautiously optimistic.

Although he appears to have promised a lot, and sometimes making lots of promises can set one up for disappointment.

Nonetheless I wish him and Columbia the best.

    In my opinion

Things will be as bad es ever.
