So?!? This extremely third hand, and yes the Jews at the time of Josephus believed that Genesis, Exodus and the rest of the Pentateuch was historical. There are no first hand references at the time Exodus that record the events, nor is there any known texts of the Pentateuch older then the Dead Sea scrolls.
These historical references are marginal, and not actually old enough to document Exodus.
Ooops . . . let me scroll up and edit the part where I said documentation . . . wait a minute! I didn't say any ****ing thing about it, did I?!?!
You might want to look up Manetho and the others. They weren't Jews in the time of Josephus.

Yes, this is true. And I think more to the point is that there really is good evidence to show that the "Israelites" actually arose out of the indigenous Canaanites. They didn't "come from afar and conquer" Canaan so much as they were homies with a powerful idea that won out, for a time. More of an internecine civil war than an exodus and conquest, really. The Torah devotes more than four books to the proposition that the Israelites came to Canaan after having been subjugated in Egypt for generations, and yet there is no archaeological evidence to support that they were ever in Egypt. A prolonged Egyptian stay should have left Egyptian elements in the material culture, such as the pottery found in theearly Israelite settlements in Canaan, but there are none.
In short, the traditions of servitude in Egypt, the tales of the Israelites wandering in the desert, and the stories of the conquest of the promised land all appear to be fictitious.
Were the Jews Slaves in Egypt?

Myths often have a seed of truth in them. That does not make the myth legitimate. The numbers, of course, do not add up, but through the account is not historical, it is based on a number of possible historical events and geography of the region.
I did not claim it was legitimate history.Myths often have a seed of truth in them. That does not make the myth legitimate.
What that supposed to mean. The only story of the exodus comes from the Bible, but there’s no record (outside of the Bible) of a mass exodus from Egypt.

The teachings of Exodus do not depend on its historical accuracy. It is a story of cruel slavery, freedom, and many other things. It’s culmination is the giving is the giving of the law and the establishment of the Mosaic covenant.
There is some archeological evidence that the story I’d based on actual events, but, in that case, it is historical fiction. However, it is the teachings of HaShem that are important, not the accuracy of the chain of events.
