Peace be upon you.
An address delivered by His Holiness, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V(aba), Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on 11th June 2013 at an event to celebrate the centenary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the United Kingdom, held at the Houses of Parliament in London. The centenary celebrations were attended by 68 dignitaries, including 30 MPs and 12 Members of the House of Lords, including 6 Cabinet Ministers and 2 Ministers. Various media organisations including the BBC, Sky TV and ITV were also present to cover the event. In attendance, amongst others, was the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change The Rt Hon. Ed Davey MP, the Deputy Prime Minister The Rt Hon. Nick Clegg MP, the Home Secretary The Rt Hon. Theresa May MP, the Shadow Foreign Secretary The Rt Hon. Douglas Alexander MP, the Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee Rt Hon. Keith Vaz MP and Member of Parliament for Mitcham and Morden Siobhain McDonaugh MP.

ESSENCE OF THE ADDRESS

Holy Khalifah started the address with the name of Allah and greetings to all participants. He thanked the friends of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who arranged the celebration event in UK Parliament for completion of 100 years of the Community in UK. He extended good wishes to the people working in parliament building. He said that it is the teaching of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) that love for one’s country is vital part of faith. He observed that British people are open heart as they have accommodated people from around the world.



He mentioned that following the teachings of Islam, members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community are the loyal citizens of the country wherever they live. They stand for peace and harmony and stay away from all form of rebellion. Love for all, hatred for none is their motto. They believe that since in this era, no country or religion is waging war against religion of Islam thus Jihad with weapons is not needed. There are people who are using the name of Islam to kill innocent people in terrorism and it is not teaching of Islam.



Islam stresses upon religious tolerance, said the Holy Khalifah. He reasoned that since Prophets were sent to all people, a Muslim cannot insult any Prophet of God. When non-Muslims wrongly say disrespectful things about Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) it hurts our feelings but we never react in unpeaceful way.However. there are others who show reaction which is not according to teaching of Islam.



Allah never enforced Islam on anyone as He says: “And if thy Lord had enforced His Will, surely, all who are in the earth would have believed together. Wilt thou, then, force men to become believers?” [Holy Quran, Surah Yunus, ch 10 : v 100)]. Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) and his followers followed Allah in this regard. Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) filled his followers' hearts for love with all creation of Allah. He was taught to say: ‘Salam’ i.e. Peace, to those who rejected him. Salam is one of the holy names of Allah, means ‘Source of Peace’. To spread peace in the world was noble mission of him (s.a.w.). It will eventually spread worldwide. Ahmadiyya Muslims follow this teaching of peace of their master Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.). When Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) returned victoriously to Mekkah, he did not seek revenge. Instead he announced: “ There shall be no punishment upon any of you for I have forgiven you all. I am a messenger of love and peace. I have the greatest knowledge of Allah’s attribute of being a ‘Source of Peace’ – He is the One Who gives peace. Thus, I forgive you of all of your past transgressions and I give you a guarantee of peace and security. You are free to remain in Makkah and to freely practice your religion. No one will be compelled or forced in any way.”



World should not attribute the extremist acts of terrorist to peaceful Islam. World is global village now. People should respect each other. There has been two world wars with immense destruction. Danger of third war is looming on horizon. We should work to avoid such catastrophe by adopting justice, integrity, honesty and by joining together against hate-spreaders and peace-destroyers. May God Almighty enables the major powers that they play their role for peace in most fair and just way. Ameen.
