It happens so many times, especially in Chicago.
A cop gets a tip from a criminal he turned.
Based on this alone, & no investigation or surveillance,
cops get a warrant to raid a home, with the requirement
    to knock first. Then they....
    Don't knock.
    Kick in the door.
    Curse & terrorize the family.
Don't give the victims a copy of the warrant as required by law.
    Search the apartment.
Realize eventually it's the wrong apartment
Continue searching anyway, leaving the handcuffs on the victim.
Hope to find something to make the illegal search look better.
Never fix the extensive damage they caused.
Never even raid the intended apartment, which was upstairs.

This task force was the department's elite.
The taxpayers will eventually foot the bill.

    This happens entirely too much.

Until cops face prison time & fines,
they'll continue being reckless & brutal.

If it happened every once in awhile it could be considered just simple mistakes. Being that it's more common, I totally agree. The public needs to get tougher on our police... they're supposed to work for/with us.

    Package delivery consequences are
    far less severe though.

I suppose that depends on what is in the package.

This kind of stuff seems to be getting worse rather than better.

Art imitated life: During the 60's I read Wonder Wart-Hog comic books. It's been a long time but as I remember in one the Hog of Steel was after one of the bad guys so he demolished a house and pulled the limbs from someone. Then realizing it was the wrong house he said "sorry".

The OP of this thread reminded me of this sick/funny comic book.

Now, to be fair to the cops, we all do this all the time. I remember one time I was supposed to go to my auntie's house with a fresh baked apple pie, but it had been a while since I visited her home and I ended up knocking on their neighbour's door instead! I tell you, we had such a laugh that I ended up staying there too long and the pie got cold! I'm such a ditz.

I mean, it's basically the same thing if you replace the pie with state violence.

    Totally the same.

Seriously, though, what kind of tests do they put cops through these days? Do they just draw a line in chalk on the ground and if you don't flip out like a chicken they let you in?

Recruiting standards are low, training is short,
& accountability is lacking. It's a field that
accepts less than the best & the brightest,
& sets them loose on the public with guns
    & a license to kill.

I suppose it is very easy to recruit people when the standard seems to be "hold gun, have power, if you do anything wrong the rest of us (or the state) will cover for you".

There's also little diligence in checking backgrounds.
So bad cops who abuse people & cost taxpayers a
fortune in settlements just quit, & then go to a new
    department somewhere else.

Just like sex offenders, bad cops should be tracked
wherever they go, with notification to all concerned.

    I haven't given Wonder Warthog a thought
in many decades. It reminds me of seeing a
copy of The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers
in a home in Germany last year.
It was an across-the-seas bonding experience.

A common theme in bad warrants being issued,
& of the Keystone Cops style raid of the wrong
house is that the legal system has no rigorous
system in place to ensure accuracy & legality.
Judges, prosecutors, & cops don't even have a
thorough checklist to complete, despite the
deadly consequences of error. The just wing it.
Only after they terrorize & even kill innocent
people are some forms filled out.
