So there’s roughly 85 Million arab people to the north east and southeast of Israel which has 6 million Jewish people and the Arab people want their little piece of land? Am I missing something? I’m still learning here.

At first I thought it was maybe because Israel was really good to grow crops but 25% of Syrias land is suitable for Growing crops so I don’t know why they have been fighting forever. I’m still learning maybe I’ll dig something up

You should study the history of the region including that which stretches back to legend because the deep history informs what is going on today.

So been doing some historical reading about Israel. Went back to the ottoman empire. The Balfour Declaration was a public statement issued by the British government in 1917 during the First World Warannouncing support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine, then an Ottomanregion with a small minority Jewish population.

I’m guessing this is what started the tension.

Anyway jump to 1947 to the
1947 adoption of the United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine, which planned to divide Palestine into an Arab state, a Jewish state, and the Special International Regime encompassing the cities of Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

tensions grew as Palestinians didn’t like the plan

Anyway, jump to the 1948 Arab-Israeli war when Britain gave up control and left Israel. That’s when west Jerusalem became controlled by the Jewish population and east Jerusalem became controlled by the Palestinian population.
As a result of the war, the State of Israel controlled the area that UN General Assembly Resolution 181 had recommended for the proposed Jewish state, as well as almost 60% of the area of Arab state proposed by the 1947 Partition Plan,[20] including the Jaffa, Lydda, and Ramle area, Galilee, some parts of the Negev, a wide strip along the Tel AvivJerusalem road, West Jerusalem, and some territories in the West Bank.

So it looks like Israeli took more than the UN suggested. Did they take it or were they fighting for their lives?

Jump ahead to 1967-Six Day War

Egypt was blocking the straits of Tiran from Israeli shipping. Israel didn’t like that so they attacked. Egypt was backed by the Arab nations of Syria and Jordan. Israel seized the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, from Jordan and the Golan Heights from Syria.

So from what I can tell Israel was being suppressed by Egypt, stood up to them and their arab allies and won the 1967 war to everyone’s surprise.

So as of right now Israel is violating article 49 of the Geneva Convention by occupying Palestinian Territory in East Jerusalem.

50 years ain’t long and I would imagine it would be difficult returning that land to the people that you just defeated in a war, Especially when they were supporting your oppressor. Furthermore, throwing the terrorist organization Hamas on top of that who wants to eradicate Jewish people from Israel just adds to the problem.

    I’m still digging though.

    Correct me if I’m wrong

The majority of the 20% identify as Arab or Palestinian by nationality and Israeli by citizenship.

    So here’s my take

-the Majority of them on each side didn’t care for the other side.
    -war broke out
    - the Arab people lost
    - resentment has fueled 70 years of strife.

    It’s becoming an embarrassment

hopefully we’ll all live to see sanity in the region.

    Godspeed this pathetic sad situation

Trust certainly will be a long time coming if it can ever come, especially with parts of Islam wanting to wipe out Israel and with resentment and wanting revenge after deaths of innocent people.
In this latest potential war it is probably the first time I have heard it said that the rockets were fired from built up areas in Palestine.
Even if the Jews win the war they lose the media war and more enemies are made in Palestine because of civilian deaths.
It is also an area where the world's bigger powers help opposing sides and keep that bigger picture marching on in conflict.
Let's face it the word situation is pathetic............no trust anywhere.

While Palestinian culture is primarily Arab and Islamic, many Palestinians identify with earlier civilizations that inhabited the land of Palestine.[89]According to Walid Khalidi, in Ottoman times "the Palestinians considered themselves to be descended not only from Arab conquerors of the seventh century but also from indigenous peoples who had lived in the country since time immemorial."

Throughout history a great diversity of peoples has moved into the region and made Palestine their homeland: Canaanites, Jebusites, Philistines from Crete, Anatolian and LydianGreeks, Hebrews, Amorites, Edomites, Nabataeans, Arameans, Romans, Arabs, and Western European Crusaders, to name a few.

Forgiveness is not easy between individuals and for politicians who have a responsibility to look after the welfare of their countries and who have pressures from multiple opposing directions probably find it harder to be the forgiving country. A politician may want to do that, but how about the people.
But yes a turning the other cheek and real effort at appeasement approach from Israel might help................or maybe not.
The theory at the moment in Israel seems to be that if they attack us we will attack them harder to teach them a lesson.

    Interesting reading.
Well hopefully things get better over there.
I’m still kind of in the dark as to what really went on and why it’s bad there now
