I disagree
Control.....it's taking back control. Same as our councils here.
Anyway you can't have your own state beyond a city council, Altfish.
Imagine all them Mancunians having to apply for passports to go visit Liverpool FC and watch how to play footy. Oh dear.....the riots!

Well then...... go try to involve them in another one.
Speaking of Ireland, what are the new border controls between UK and Republic like?

I remember this being an enormous issue during Brexit negotiations, but I somehow failed to catch on how they settled this in the end.

It isn't settled. The current border between the EU country (Ireland) and the non-EU country (Little England) is in the Irish Sea. You'll need a brexiteer to explain how this works. Which will be a first.

"In the proposed withdrawal agreement, the special arrangement for Northern Ireland would end when a solution can be found that delivers a border as imperceptible as it became from the Good Friday Agreement until Brexit. As of June 2019, such a solution remains to be identified. Partial solutions have been proposed but have not been judged adequate."

"This is only the start of the process, it could take a number of years before things become easier."

I don't think that the border is sorted out fully yet.
O would have to seek an update from Google, I think. :)

I thought it would yield a more accurate portrayal of the situation if I asked a local first, but fair enough.
