    His tweet...

    Elon Musk
    @elonmusk

In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party. But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican. Now, watch their dirty tricks campaign against me unfold …
    [IMG]

    Indeed they will Mr. Musk.

The smear campaign is their stock and trade and of course the popcorn will be buttery and salty.

I'm not sure he ever was a Democrat, but then again, I haven't followed his early life, like when he was with PayPal.

Voting Republican to counter division and hate is like drinking bleach to avoid the sourness of orange juice.

How else does one proceed in an entrenched duopoly?

Pick the candidates with the less damaging platforms, but then things get more complicated when a party that is overall less unreasonable fails to address an issue crucial to a subset of voters.

My point is that the GOP have been stoking hatred and division for years at this point. They are not the solution to a problem of which they are a core part.

Musk is all about Twitter theater these days. He wants the platform to get attention, and he gets it. In this Tweet he is using conservatives to repeat some stab at democrats, and here is one case where it worked. How many more conservatives took the bait?

This is why I don't use much social media. I wouldn't take anything he says as sincere or factual or useful.

Well, he doesn't have to vote Republican. He can take his money and back a worthy independent candidate.

Any Republican who bellyaches about the Democrats' being hateful and derisive is a hypocrite, IMO. I know from personal experience that Republicans can be just as hateful and derisive as Democrats. Anyone who says differently isn't being honest with themselves or with anyone else. Musk needs a reality check, IMO. I decided to re-post one of my older posts (located here) to demonstrate my point.

As an ex-conservative and registered Republican, I've endured hate from Republicans since Trump hoodwinked the GOP in 2015. I've been accused of being anti-American, anti-Christian, and demon-possessed. I was told that I was possessed by a demon and that's what caused me to vote for Biden, and apparently I'm going to burn in hell for all eternity because I voted for him. Not only have I been called demon-possessed, but I have been called evil incarnate, Satan's minion, a "child of the devil," and a "Demon Rat." I was also called a "f***ing b*tch" and a traitor to my country. To add insult to injury, I was ostracized by my Trump-loving extended family and excluded from a family reunion. I was later told that it upset my relatives that I voted for Biden, and it was best for all concerned if I didn't show up. Lastly, I've witnessed other ex-conservatives being verbally attacked by other conservatives, mostly Trumpsters.

In the 26 years I was a conservative and a registered Republican, I never witnessed or experienced any liberal viciously degrading other people to the same level as I witnessed and experienced from other conservatives. I grew up in a white conservative home and in a predominantly white conservative town, and I heard black people being called the N word practically all the time. In fact, there weren't any black people living in this town. Other than a few Native Americans, there weren't any POC living in this town, and Native Americans were often called racist slurs. As I've shared before, I have Native American ancestry, and because I have red hair and light skin, I was called a half-breed and told that my Indian blood was dirty. I was told that I couldn't be a Christian and embrace my Indian heritage at the same time. I was also told that the entire worth of Indians could be found at the bottom of a whiskey bottle.

As a young adult, I began to accept and embrace my native heritage, but it came with a price. I began to experience a lot of hostility from some of the white conservative Christians I knew. I wasn't surprised by their racism because I grew up around it, but it was painful and upsetting to experience it firsthand. So, I firmly disagree with your claim that the left is more intolerant than the right.

I also regret having voted for President Biden, but I seriously doubt Elon Musk is going to be any happier voting Republican. I would be very interested in Elon Musk forming a third political party, perhaps called the Technocratic Party.

I'd do just that providing I still have the freedom to walk away.

Dialog between the two. Right now Twitter's algorithm is set up into two mostly separate echo chambers.

Musk is the largest producer of electric cars. He is supposedly acquiring twitter for free speech(to get supporters)

Yeah, I don't how a guy with an affinity for science and the environment will mesh well with republicans.

First you have to accept reality. Rep or Dem, in America we have freedom and do not live in tyranny. We have a voice we are free to use to petition the government for change. And healthy, honest dialogue is needed for this. When you don't approach things with ahyperpartisan lens this is easy. Most Americans do, after all, agree on a number of things. Real, living, flesh and blood Americans agreeing. But on TV and the internet is where the most obnoxious minorities thrive, the ones driving discord and sowing ideological toxins. That has got to be toned down.
And people have to participate. The candidates we vote on in November are chosen by those who participated in primaries. Vote. Vote. And vote and get others to vote. We need the real life Americans participating in primaries because the Rep and Dem TV and internet fan clubs have thoroughly demonstrated they are both beyond incompetent at picking candidates (that's because they're largely hyperpartisan arselings).

First, The reality stands is that we are not free.

What we do have at present is a culture of compulsory policymaking and mandates. That's not freedom. It's authoritarianism.

Apparently, the one who needs to accept reality is not me. Not by a long shot. We are experiencing a shift to authoritarianism at an alarming rate with plenty of sources to establish that fact.

The duopoly that exists is not working and will eventually destroy this country freedoms for something much much worse down the line.

I'm not the only one that sees this happening.

You have the freedom of speech. You can vote.
If you won't accept the rights you have to change things and wield them go cry to someone else standing on the sidelines.
