It's been a long time now. We would have gotten rid of them later anyway when the bird flu hit. Birds had to be caged then and building a cage would have been too much of a hassle for eggs for two persons.Damn. That sucks. I'm sorry for your feathered loss.
I'll have chickens eventually. But not just yet. Juggling a lot atm.

And not as tasty. Eggs from free ranging chicken taste so much better.Same here, 26 chickens in one day. Chicken slaughter!
Now I just have a half-dozen and I can't let them free-range. Sad really.
I had 8 hens and one rooster until I came home one day and the door was open, all of them dead over the back yard. Don't know if a raccoon got in or an upright two legged animal. We are going to build a new home and get them again (after about 40 years)
Try geese; bigger eggs, useful watchbirds, and foxes will think twice before attacking these aggressive birds.I have a murder dog. I don't think chickens would make it very long.
