Hi everyone,

We now have a new section of our site that will display The Bible for you to browse and quote.

You can check it out here: http://www.religiousforums.com/bible/genesis/1/

We also have a new BBCode, [ verse ], which will allow you to easily quote a verse or a range of verses and format them within the post.

Example:

[VERSE=John 3:16,ASV]For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.[/VERSE]

[VERSE=Genesis 1:1-10,ASV][VERSENUM]1[/VERSENUM] In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

[VERSENUM]2[/VERSENUM] And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters [VERSENUM]3[/VERSENUM] And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

[VERSENUM]4[/VERSENUM] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

[VERSENUM]5[/VERSENUM] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

[VERSENUM]6[/VERSENUM] And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

[VERSENUM]7[/VERSENUM] And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

[VERSENUM]8[/VERSENUM] And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.

[VERSENUM]9[/VERSENUM] And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

[VERSENUM]10[/VERSENUM] And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.[/VERSE]

We will continue to expand this and add more features. Please let us know what you think![/verse]

Example usage:

Code:
[VERSE=Genesis 1:1,asv]In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.[/VERSE]
[VERSE]Mark 15:37-39[/VERSE]

Where in the first example, WEB is the translation you wish to use. Currently we have the following available:

[VERSE=Mark 1:1-40,ASV][VERSENUM]1[/VERSENUM] The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

[VERSENUM]2[/VERSENUM] Even as it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way.

[VERSENUM]3[/VERSENUM] The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight; [VERSENUM]4[/VERSENUM] John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins.

[VERSENUM]5[/VERSENUM] And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; And they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

[VERSENUM]6[/VERSENUM] And John was clothed with camel's hair, and [had] a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey.

[VERSENUM]7[/VERSENUM] And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

[VERSENUM]8[/VERSENUM] I baptized you in water; But he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit.

[VERSENUM]9[/VERSENUM] And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan.

[VERSENUM]10[/VERSENUM] And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him: [VERSENUM]11[/VERSENUM] And a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased.

[VERSENUM]12[/VERSENUM] And straightway the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness.

[VERSENUM]13[/VERSENUM] And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; And he was with the wild beasts; And the angels ministered unto him.

[VERSENUM]14[/VERSENUM] Now after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, [VERSENUM]15[/VERSENUM] and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel.

[VERSENUM]16[/VERSENUM] And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishers.

[VERSENUM]17[/VERSENUM] And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

[VERSENUM]18[/VERSENUM] And straightway they left the nets, and followed him.

[VERSENUM]19[/VERSENUM] And going on a little further, he saw James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets.

[VERSENUM]20[/VERSENUM] And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.

[VERSENUM]21[/VERSENUM] And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.

[VERSENUM]22[/VERSENUM] And they were astonished at his teaching: For he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

[VERSENUM]23[/VERSENUM] And straightway there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, [VERSENUM]24[/VERSENUM] saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

[VERSENUM]25[/VERSENUM] And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

[VERSENUM]26[/VERSENUM] And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.

[VERSENUM]27[/VERSENUM] And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.

[VERSENUM]28[/VERSENUM] And the report of him went out straightway everywhere into all the region of Galilee round about.

[VERSENUM]29[/VERSENUM] And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

[VERSENUM]30[/VERSENUM] Now Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her: [VERSENUM]31[/VERSENUM] and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

[VERSENUM]32[/VERSENUM] And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were sick, and them that were possessed with demons.

[VERSENUM]33[/VERSENUM] And all the city was gathered together at the door.

[VERSENUM]34[/VERSENUM] And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and he suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him.

[VERSENUM]35[/VERSENUM] And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed.

[VERSENUM]36[/VERSENUM] And Simon and they that were with him followed after him; [VERSENUM]37[/VERSENUM] and they found him, and say unto him, All are seeking thee.

[VERSENUM]38[/VERSENUM] And he saith unto them, Let us go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth.

[VERSENUM]39[/VERSENUM] And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons.

[VERSENUM]40[/VERSENUM] And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.[/VERSE]

Well, if you'd kindly look at [VERSE=Exodus 7:19,ASV]And Jehovah said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.[/VERSE]

I think the answer should be fairly obvious.

Why just one version of the Bible and why just the text of one religion?

Presumably because it takes a lot of work to make happen? With that being said, it really would be quite useful to do this with as many religious texts as possible.

Why just one version of the Bible ... ?
Huh?

... and why just the text of one religion?
You are absolutely right. They should have implemented code to reference every available translation of every religious text of every religion before releasing any of it for use. How dare they offer a half-baked product!

Wouldn't it be simpler and more equal to different religions to have a drop down menu that provided reliable links to online copies of many different religious scriptures rather than hosting one or two copies of particular religious books? Not only does providing the scripture for just one, perhaps two in the future, show a favoritism of the forum to that/those religions, but it has to take up more space and require more work than just links.

Personally I think clicking a drop down menu that brings up many religions to click on and link automatically to their scriptures, even if on a different site, would be found much more helpful than just having the bible available. Especially when there are already so many sites available that host the bible. Do we really need to as well?

Food for thought.

I imagine for some religious texts there may be an issue of copyright infringement. LaVey Satanism's Satanic Bible, for example, I do not think is public domain or offered for free anywhere, which may make it so it can't legally be linked to or provided here. But surely there are plenty of texts that can be legally and easily provided here.
