You may or may not know it, but Saturday March 29 at 8pm is Earth Hour.

On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.

Join people all around the world in showing that you care about our planet and want to play a part in helping to fight climate change. Don’t forget to sign up and let us know you want to join Earth Hour.

 I didn't know...

I might consider that, if I remember... However, I don't think I'll be able to get my parents and sister to comply...

I think it's demonstrative and leaves people with the sense of being part of something which, of course, is all well and good. I suspect, however, that far too many participants will not be using that hour of darkness to change their light bulbs.

Things like this do tend to get more people involved in a movement, and perhaps some of those who start this way will go on to do much more for a cause.

It is much more symbolic of trying to raise awareness then anything....

It should make for an interesting Assembly meeting this evening. I guess I'll send my husband with the oil lamp and a few spare candles.

I will contribute to Earth Hour! Tonight I will join millions of people who turn off their lights when they go to bed! And that is eight hours. Top that! :disco:
