A Tesla driver was caught sleeping on Autopilot at high speed, police are charging him criminally - Electrek

    150 km/hr = 93.2057 mph

I don't think could even possibly sleep under those circumstances. Either they were complete fools or they put a lot of trust in their autopilot.

Yikes. Self driving cars are certainly not at the level of technology needed to just let them do whatever while you pass out. I honestly think that all cars should have breathalyzers installed.

    Oh geeze.

I think drinking and driving should be legalized, as long as you're not totally drunk. Who cares? I don’t.

Ever been run down by a drunk driver?
    I have.
It's an experience that really affects one.
Impaired driving should be grounds for permanent loss
of license to drive. Over 30,000 people in Ameristan die
in traffic deaths every year. Driving is a big responsibility.
Those who cannot handle it, shouldn't be doing it.

It's gone too far. Even prescription medication is a DUI, but you can have a toothache, and have a mental breakdown while driving... It's radicalized enforcememt of the law... It's ridiculous.

Jack their insurance rates up if they do stupid things... But putting more people behind bars is a big problem in America. We have 'for profit' prisons.

Nearly 1 out of every 100 people is in prison in the United States, totaling up to over 2 million.

You also have a collosal injury and death rate from drink driving. Jacking insurance will make no difference to that except make it more expensive for the drunk to kill someone.

Prison and a lifetime ban is as good as it can get but that wont bring back a child they kill

And so clearly prison doesn't work. All they're doing is throwing people in jail who haven't crashed, but the officer spotted a beer can or had some suspicious idea. They claim to be saving lives, but there's no guarantee any of those people arrested with a minute amount of blood alcohol would have ever done harm... it's the totally intoxicated who only need to go to jail.

Say no to radicalized law enforcement.

Or limit the time you can use your car. Like truckers with logbooks and include roadside inspection sites like they do with trucks.

It is proven that as little 0.5 gms of alcohol per litre can impair driving ability.

And of course, prison keeps them off the road for the duration of their sentence. The roads are therefore that much safer

Proven by the police, who also claim you have to shoot to kill every time.

Face it @ChristineM, there is no opposition or checks to ensure these "proven" statistics... Everyone just goes with it because drinking is 'naughty, naughty'... And people are often radical minded, and not sensible as history shows.

We don't live in a black and white world.

I do not live in America, and proven by independent scientific and medical research.

In Europe there has been considerable opposition since drunk driving legislation was first introduced, each attempt is trashed by science.

But hey, if you are happy taking other people's lives in your hands because you don't have a care for them then that's up to you. I can only hope of intervention before it kills someone

Biased, non-peer reviewed science, you mean. The *fact* is that there's no difference between a buzzed driver and a tired driver... There's no difference between an 80 year old driver and a buzzed driver... But your "statistics" forget to tell you that, because they're biased in favor of the government's wills and desires, because the government is paying them to do the study, and because everyone wants a pat on the back for enforcing some new game-changing laws. They get promotions for that, and funding goes toward those who can prove something exists that really doesn't matter.

Based on the fact we are discussing drunk driving, not geriatrics. A drink it voluntarily, getting old isn't.

Killing someone may not matter to you, it does to me and to the friends and family of the one killed by an irissponsible drunk
