Does the 2020 presidency matter anymore?

Donald Trump has focused nearly his entire presidency so far on the economy. We saw peak stock prices, the lowest unemployment rates, and job growth like never before. The late twenty-teens were booming, no doubt... Then came the coronavirus.

...Now I can't help but see all the Good economic policies Tump has done go down the tubes, with a Great Recession at hand, and a 1930's style Great Depression just around the corner.

But Trump is a positive thinker. He has an optimistic outlook, that the economy will rebound like a "V" shape... I'm not sure it will.

...So does it even matter who becomes president anymore? If so, why?

It matters. Though there are always limits, because the President doesn't do every last thing himself - there is the rest of the government including the courts and the Senate and House, etc. But so many things are still up to whomever is President, I think it's as valid as ever.

Maybe it's inevitable that we begin concentrating our efforts at the local community levels now.

But the Federal government just spent $2 trillion on the emergency bill. And there is talk now of a second $2 trillion bill, for infrastructure.

There's nothing more they can do... Their powers will be depleted, with nothing left to give but advice, which doesn't get anyone very far.

My reason for voting in the Presidential election this year is:

I have the opportunity to vote for the person I think least likely to hold up the House and Senate in passing important bills, and to encourage good bills being written and passed. Should other issues not disappear or no new issues pop up.

Though there could still be debate whether a person thinks that person is Biden or Trump.

It seems like you're optimistic that we're going to pull out of this looming depression. Where policies will matter.

If he embraces socialist economic policies, yes, the economy can rebound. That's what I think.

I just think we might need to cancel the Fed, and create a brand new currency under Socialism... Start over from scratch, because of all the debt that's accumulating. Plus the trillions being spent now, during this state of emergency all equal up to be a huge mess.

Total Global Bankruptcy might be required.

Maybe... hopefully not.

Sure, the rich were having a great time. They loved Trump. Every decision he made helped them become richer. Everyone else was still living paycheck to paycheck, though, because few of the jobs being created paid a decent wage. And most people aren't living off their stock dividends. But you chose not to see any of this. ...I have no idea why.
Then came the coronavirus.

...Now I can't help but see all the Good economic policies Trump has done go down the tubes, with a Great Recession at hand, and a 1930's style Great Depression just around the corner.
Because you chose not to see the reality of his economic policies, and how they were the expression of his absolute greed, selfishness, incompetence, and narcissistic ago, you were unable to see such a disaster coming. Even as the Trump presidency has been one disaster after another since he's been sworn in.
But Trump is a positive thinker. He has an optimistic outlook, that the economy will rebound like a "V" shape... I'm not sure it will.
Every time the republicans take executive power, they've used it to disembowel commerce laws to help their rich cronies rob the American people and eventually crash the markets. Under Bush senior, it was Enron and the savings and loan bamboozle that cost Americans billions of dollars. Under Bush junior it was housing and stock market crash of 2008. And now under Trump, it's the virus and crash of 2020. Then it takes 8 years of democratic rule to dig us out of these economic holes that republican greed-run-amok keeps driving our economy into.
...So does it even matter who becomes president anymore? If so, why?
Of course it would matter. Especially if we'd STOP VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS!

I live paycheck to paycheck. Sushi, cheesecake factory, and prime rib dinners every night. Beach walks, Disneyland passes, and old town coffee strolls regularly. Life's been like paradise for me, I'm not gonna lie.

...But I work hard for it.

But seriously, after a few more months of this, who on earth can pull us out of all this accumulating debt as a society?

It does matter. By the necessity of the virus, and the advice of the experts, one can see what happens when big Government takes over and calls the shots. Big Government, under the circumstances, can now over ride personal and private sector choices, including freedom of religion and freedom to assembly..

If this national emergency had been due to hysteria hyped over climate change, the US and the rest of the world would become third world countries with perpetual soup lines, since the end game would be socialism and perpetual control. Pelosi is using this tragedy to work the agenda.

You still need someone like Trump who was able to create economic prosperity, but who also was willing to sacrifice his best, for the lives of his citizens. He could have pulled an Obama, and ignored everything to avoid political waves; swine flu. Trump was willing to place his best effort; economy, on the alter of sacrifice for his people. He will be able to motivate the people to get the country back up to steam in the direction of prosperity, after the time out.

The heartless nature of the Democrat leaders, by adding pork barrel into bills geared toward the immediate needs of suffering, will come back to haunt them. They will lose the house and senate, Then the job of Trump will get done in record time. This will show everyone how the Democrat leadership was the main problem. The younger Democrats will see this, forget the past, and start to build a new day.

It matters, at least to those of us who are not in the USA.

Trump is slowly but surely exploiting the weaknesses of the US constitution to dismantle it. Only yesterday he sacked the intelligence officer who reported information that was inconvenient to Trump personally. This is just the latest in a long line of actions, including blatant nepotism and abuse of power for personal gain, that are reducing the USA, by slow degrees, to a banana republic, governed by the personal whim of the president and his entourage of yesmen. The USA no longer has much authority in the world. It has ceded leadership and seems happy to have an adversarial relationship with everyone else. That is bad for those of us that would prefer not to see the likes of Xi or Putin acting with a free hand.

The US political system seems to be in a state of decline. The two parties can no longer even agree on the same set of facts about a given situation, let alone the course of action. The whole country has been systematically and deliberately polarised and divided along these party lines. You can see this even at a time of huge national crisis like the present: the first instinct of the president is to hunt around to assign blame and divide the country, rather than uniting it.

The poison may now be fatal. I would not be wholly surprised if the US suffers a second civil war at some point in the future. It could even break up.

I see what you don't like, and what you protest.

...What would you like to see exactly? How will the world survive this great economic problem, when the economy is what nurses societies into well being?
