The mysteries of the universe? Is this why God is so elusive?

No, he wants us to understand but it takes time. The progressive advancement of understanding is where the glory is. We live for eons.

    God doesn't want anything.
Mystery exists as a thing in itself, not as something that needs to be understood.
By leaving Mystery as Mystery, you get to live life, rather than murder it and then dissect it, at a distance.

To me, first it's more like the mysteries about Earth, then the universe(s).
True, the Bible ( considered as God's Word ) is Not written easy ABC as a dictionary is, but with the help of a comprehensive concordance the Bible can be arranged by topic or subject arrangement, thus God and the Bible are Not so elusive.

In Islam God remains elusive till judgement day. You cant take a newborn to court. Judgement day belongs to the "ghayb" or unseen aspect of reality.

If there were immediate judgement - and God were to be known more directly - then it would be over and done with, but there is a sense of freedom for a while so that the good and the evil may be allowed to act, and the angels can take note of their various deeds in preparation for judgement.

So life is a test, and the final test is more just if judgement is suspended until ones actions are completed.

Looking for Allah is done via signs, health, well being, safety etc. of the believers, and the folly of those who follow idols and vain desires.

Were not dealing with standard lab evidence, materialism, but often an interpretation of phenomenology through the lens of the Koran. So when the sun in a lamp, or the crescent moon is compared to a whithered date stem, these wont be discovered by NASA.

They're beautiful sayings. To the unlearned Allah may seem arbitrarily cruel, but when "piety" (Arabic: taqwa) is defined as safeguarding of the human life, with both secular and sacred aspects, then obviolsly by strict inference an absence of piety puts one in danger.

So the essence of Islam is found in care, safety, being on guard, avoiding danger and unhealthy things practices, and turning towards positive lifestyle. Really it ought to include scientific thinking too, as a useful form of knowledge for a balance including the secular aspect of taqwa.
