I was reading in the Book of Mormon about how God destroyed many in ancient America by natural disasters. I think the idea is to create prosperity and security to the righteous and destruction to the wicked upon the American continent forever.
Of course, there are many things that are more particular to distinguishing between people that the Lord could micromanage too.
But that doesn't mean we can see how it works! If we did, maybe the bad people could exploit His ways.
