I see people do this, and I wonder if I also do it, involuntarily, depending on the topic... Why do you think you do it, if you do?

I can't think of instances off the top of my head. But practically every thread I create has a handful of posts that seem to only respond to the thread title and not the contents of the original post. I can only assume that everyone must do this sometimes...

I usually do, but it is interesting to see the amount of people who do not. You can tell as sometimes the questions I ask are me playing devils advocate, they are not necessarily what I believe which I try to explain in the OPs but then you get people who just leave nasty messages at you who obviously have not read the OP.

Sometimes the thread title is the more interesting bit.

Some threads are like a conversation. A conversation will twist around and while keeping the idea of the original subject will branch out and splinter into sub topics. :)

If its really really long..Somethimes I "skim it'..But usually I do read the OP..Somethimes though I don't watch the link or the video if its attached..Like the RIP baby P..I commented on that thread without reading the article linked..

I do however have a habit on threads I've been too..Or threads that are long..Reading them backwards..IOW..I read the last post and go up from there..

    Love

Often I find myself responding to some outrageous comment within the thread. Even then, I usually go back and read the comics, er the OP.

Ditto. Usually the thread move on from the OP, and so the most relevant part to the actual discussion going on is in the last few pages. Usually I read the OP just to ensure I am reading the thread in the right context, though.

Personally I don't think we should allow nuns to run loose in the street.

Sometimes thew OP{ was so long ago it no longer is really relevent to what is being discussed.
But then again if peopele are butchering your thread you just have to ask them to return to the OP and they generally will.

:( I thought you were going to put something crazy and strange in the OP for people to talk about - as a test to see who read this thread's OP and who did not - I think you should go back and edit your OP - tell people a specific thing to talk about, then see who does it...

I think we need more nuns not less!!!

How about a thread about who reads through all the comments before posting?
