I replied yes as a secular. (I also meditated when I was a theist.)

I've tried it once or twice

I enjoyed it, I thought it was good

I may start doing it habitually

I think that it would be good for me

I voted a secular yes but.... I don't class it as meditation thought I've been told thats what i do . It not sitting and freeing my mind but walking in the forest or by the river and sorting the world out while loosing myself among the flora and fauna.

You forgot the option of both secular and religious reasons.

    I couldn't vote.

I do it for religious/ritualistic and for relaxation and therapeutic purposes.

I've edited the poll to add that option.

I've been meditating for therapeutic reasons since I was about 17. I've found it very helpful while maintaining therapy in general. I began using it for ritualistic purposes in university. It's become an invaluable tool in my typical routines.

I don't. I prefer to take psych medications instead. Meditation effects are too temporary to help me out, as long as I keep popping the pills and getting the injections I'll be good. It takes ten minutes to fill my med counter every week and about three minutes to take each AM and PM dose. Meditation is a lengthy process that takes a long time to see any real noticeable positive side effects from.

i do something once in awhile to improve concentration when I need it ... but I wouldn't call it meditation.

I use a short focus exercise. I'll relax, almost close my eyes, and focus on the spot between my eyes, what some would call the third eye. I do this for about 5 mintues, and it really helps in reducing stress and anxiety.

I apply zazen techniques to just about everything I do.

I also practice mindfulness when tasking.

Very difficult for me in terms of maintaining a protracted long duration focus, but at the same time had amazing results whenever it succeeds so it's always a motivator to keep it up.

What are your reasons, if you're inclined to share them?

I'm not sure I have any specific reasons. No purpose. No goals. Just being. Freedom. On tap.

Interesting poll. I cannot wait until the results are posted.

However "meditation" means a LOT of different things depending upon what the end goal is and what people claim is required to get there. So those posting here to add their comments are helpful in that respect.

For myself, my mind is almost ALWAYS in a calm, silent, meditative state, always trying to understand myself, God, the universe, and my place in all of it. The only thing that messes this up is those pesky emotional crises. So I try to avoid them at all costs.

Yes, I saw the current results right after I entered my input into the poll. Maybe I didn't look hard enough at first, but only saw the poll questions and didn't really look for any way to get to the results.
