I've gambled a number of times I could probably count on my fingers and toes. A few poker parties I've been asked to (though I don't have a particular interest), a couple of trips to casinos as a part of bachelor parties or other outings with friends, and I've bought lottery tickets maybe 5 or 6 times in my entire life.

Otherwise, I dislike the idea of my time spent working being on the line and possibly lost to the ether. I have much better things to do with my time/money earned during that time.

That said, believe it or not, I am probably ahead with respect to win/loss ratio. Those few times at the casino I always walked away with more money than I went in with. And with respect to the lottery tickets, they were mostly scratch-offs, which I have hit on several even out of the few times I bought. I also came in second in one of the poker tournaments I participated in... which likely cancels out all my other buy-ins for the few other times I went and otherwise lost early on.

I used to play poker with friends quite often but not for a long time. Sometimes I won a bit and sometimes I lost. But the point was to have some, relatively cheap, fun.

Have you ever been lucky to win something?

I've no interest in it. My wife likes it though. She get excited and tries to drag me to the casino. Boring... almost as boring as shopping.

She wins a few thousand once in a while. The casio provides a win/loss statement for tax purposes. People forget their loses and remember their wins. They take a little at a time but give you a large win once in a while. I showed my wife over the course of a year she ends up with 10 to 20 percent less over the course of a year. Net loss always for the consistent gambler. The percentage of the payout is pretty accurate as to how much of your money you'll lose.

However I have seen some folks real lucky with cards. Don't know if it's luck or experience.

Most casino gambling will always have a person lose over the long term. Poker is a bit different since that can be a game of skill where a person that gives away his emotions and can't read those of others will usually lose. A person that can lie effectively (bluff) and can read others when they lie can consistently win. I do not have those skills. And I am good enough at math to know that I can't win against the casino so I too have no interest in going. I agree one hundred percent that gamblers tend to remember their wins and not their losses. I have met gambler after gambler that "usually wins". Yet they are amazingly poor. One guy I know should be living in a nice house that he owned, unfortunately the casino gets over half of his paycheck usually. He rents and pays partially by doing handyman work besides his job.

Eh, sometimes. I'll head over to the casino once every couple of months. I'm more of a 'poker game in the bar' kind of feller though.

Would you consider playing blackjack into a high card count with the odds in the player's favor as gambling?

...:)

I used to do the same when I was living in Chicago, but over time the group got too aggressive, and the stakes got too high, so I stopped. I was there for fun, but it wasn't fun for some of them unless there was serious risk. And that's when it became not fun, to me.

I do not enjoy recreational gambling like casinos... but... life has many things like gambling.

Like many things, some people can partake and just have fun but some get hurt so some discernment in knowing when to quit and when to not start is important. Addictive behavior is bad

People also vary form person to person in what kinds of fun can turn in to negative addictions
