Do You Enjoy Life?

Life is a weird ride to say the least. It seems the older I become, the more enjoyable life becomes. I don't know. I suppose I'm curious where everyone else is on this thing called life.

I am grateful for and do enjoy the opportunities that come with life here. I enjoy my hobbies and I am in no hurry to find out for certain what is on the other side of death. But there are times when life palls deeply upon me. A sense that much of what we do here is pointless. A mild to moderate sense of dukkha pervades my existence.

Same here. It only happened because I became self sufficient in my happiness. I don't socialise as well, so I have have eliminated the complexity of other people's emotions and manipulation out of my life which surprisingly took away a lot of the misery out of it too. All I need are either books, art equipment, tv series and video games (and obviously the bear necessities as the wise Baloo once sang) and I am super happy. I am actually much happier than most people I know. Or should I rather say content than happy.....?

I could have seen myself writing something very similar.

Fairly early on I found that the only reason I ever felt "down" was when other people around me were behaving certain negative ways, otherwise, I was always completely fine either on my own or around people who weren't being negative. "Content" is a good word for it. Ultimately, I even stopped letting much of what other people feel affect my mood, even when I am around them. Someone can be a complete sour-puss, or intent on complaining about everything, and I'll just stay even-keel, because I came to understand about myself that other people could affect me negatively, and I didn't like it... so I shut it off. It is interesting being able to control a thing, that would otherwise probably be involuntary, because you understand why it is happening.

To the question of the OP, my answer is yep! Got good friends, a great wife, close children & grandchildren, and I keep very busy.

Only you folks are the downers! :p

Some days I do immensely. Other days I don't at all, and just crave the idea of crawling into bed and going to sleep.

I agree....

Sometimes I say that the golden 50th anniversary year is golden because you have finally dug a whole lot of dirt, removed it, refined it by the fire of difficulties and now you can enjoy the 24 carrot gold of life.

Having been married 51+ years, I agree.

The fire image is apt. I describe some of our early years as holding on to a red hot poker and refusing to let go. Some might call it commitment. I call it pure, unadulterated stubbornness. ;)

I enjoy life. :D

Enjoy walking on the beach and contemplating the lazy blue waves as they relax and sooth my soul. Enjoy watching the sun go overhead in the sky. Enjoy watering the trees and plants while a cool winter breeze blows against my face. Enjoy starting up the grill, getting out food, putting good music on and cooking. Especially enjoy the delicious food that I am so fortunate to taste. Enjoy being with my family. I enjoy approaching God in prayer and giving him thanks for my life and all the wonderful things to enjoy it. It is a joy taking time to read God's word in the Bible and listening to him talk back to me as he gives wisdom and understanding. Enjoy talking about God to other people. Enjoy the expressions on their faces as the truth illuminates their minds and hearts and smile as realization of God and his purposes and his love opens their hearts wide to see the everlasting glories. Enjoy giving of my time and energy and material things to those who are in need. This is most satisfying.

And I enjoy telling others about how I enjoy the good life that the good God has given us. :D
