Do you agree with Andrew Cuomo that America was never that great

How do you explain Andrew Cuomo saying in 2010 that we should make America great again
and now says America was never that great?

Perhaps too complex a message for a politician to deliver.
And also the wrong message for his party.

On that subject I understand Hillary applauded an 11 year old for kneeling during the pledge of allegiance. To me that isn't showing good leadership on Hillary's part but it may be part of the new party talking points

One could see Americastan as great, while still having serious flaws.
Greatness =/= Perfection
That's fair. Right now I put the US in the top 5 places I would like to live. Of course, the others are hypothetical since I have never lived there before.

It's the danger of homophones, actually. What he really said was that we should make America "grate" again. We used to make this horrible grating sound which kept the Canadians up at night. They complained, so we stopped, but now we want to grate on their nerves again.

In the early 50's, when I was attending Grade School, we were told that America is a melting pot nation. (Contrast that with what Trump is saying). We were also told that America is a Christian Nation. Read early American history, and you will see that the Europeans committed Genocide on the Native Americans. Then we did awful things in Central and South America. (Cuba too ?)

In truth, America and the UK, and much of Europe are robber baron nations. As you look more deeply into history, you find that it has always been the same. You don't even need to use the Bible. The Huns, Genghis Khan, and many others went about killing and pillaging. I had naively hoped we were different. No, Virginia, America is not a Christian nation.

Here I am older than dirt, driving a two year old car, living comfortably, and hoping that my health does not decline too rapidly. Sad, very sad.

Pretty much anything that has ever been called an Empire or Super Power has been built blood and suffering of the innocent. Things are great for the beneficiaries who often are either powerless, ignorant or don't care of the evil done in their names.

In Europe I hear that the 90s were great and America was great back then.
Maybe because Nine Eleven destroyed our certainties.

btw...it is true that a country can get or lose greatness. Italy, which after WW2 was a devastated, poor, agrarian country, became the 5th world power in the 80s thanks to its socialist policies, and the capability of saving and investing we Italians have.

Then the EU imposed us to destroy the socialist state with austerity policies, through usury (the Euro Seigniorage) and other impositions

Our "wonderful" New York governor.

That statement reflects him all right.

Started out strong and popular, ended up a dweeb.

Here's the thing about meaningless platitudes, they appeal to emotion and only make sense if you don't think about them too much.

"Make America great again". Sounds good, except that it doesn't explain what it means by "great" or when it last was great so we know what it means by "again". As it is, it's a meaningless phrase. You could literally have people who fully support it who all believe it means completely different, even contradictory things.

So, to answer your question about Cuomo, can you first explain what you and he mean by "great" and "again" please?
