Do these things exist?

Okay.

Where does the mind even exist at?
Philosophical materialists would tell you that the mind is completely a product of the brain. I don't agree. I think it's quite possible that the right hemisphere of the brain is in contact with a greater reality than the reality that our left brain perceives.. But I can't argue this and provide evidence to support my opinion.

Joe1776, thank you for your post and at least you are being honest about it. I believe we do use our brains to some extent especially when it comes to figuring out solutions to problems, though the thoughts and the mind are an interesting concept and believe that no one really knows where they come from; though according to Jesus they come from heart, and I believe that we all have a soul with a mind(heart), will, and emotion that leads us by the choices we make to make decisions by and through our heart.

I mean that is my only conclusion because not so sure anyone else in the world spoken on that subject before other than Jesus as far as my knowledge goes. I believe.

In my understanding, they exist in the ego as a result of attachment and desire.
Which might explain Jesus teaching that his followers must deny themselves.

Fair understanding but is not what is being taught here by Jesus; what do you think about what is said by him if you have any?
What is taught here by Jesus or what you say it is? There is a similarity between self denial in Christ and the self denial of Buddhists. I am not claiming Christianity is Buddhism. I'm claiming nothing, but why would you say Jesus is not teaching the problem is ego?

For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality,
theft,
murder (even considered for hate - or saying someone is dead to you),
adultery,
greed,
wickedness,
deceit,
debauchery,
e
nvy,
slander,
arrogance,
and foolishness
.
All these evils come from within, and these are what defile a man.”
Yes, definitely I agree.

@Brickjectivity

What are your thoughts on what Jesus Christ is saying?

It doesn't have anything to do with me; it is a personal question between you and what is being said by him. It can mean something, it might not mean anything to you personally. I do not know.

@Brickjectivity I have no response to your opinion of Jesus teaching about the ego. He is talking about the heart. Otherwise he would have suggested it comes from the ego.

When I was a child my only struggles were with anger and fears. When I was seven years old I repented from lying. I had a brief problem with porn when I was twelve, but I repented. I once cursed when I was sixteen. I never thought of myself as evil.

But then I turned 47 years old, and I struggle with all of the above. These were always in me lying dormant, asleep. I know how to live, but I want all of the above. What I didn't know before was what I wanted. Now I know what is inside, and I mustn't let it out. I never understood until I became older. My desires have become so much stronger.

@Brickjectivity I still have my own problems to ; I believe it is the spirit of Christ Jesus living with-in me that helps me when thinking and placing heart(mind) on Him, instead of my own selfish ways.

@Subduction Zone : What do you think about the original topic about what was said ?

I think that it is an error to try to ascribe such things to the heart. And some are of course poorly defined. What is sexually immoral for you is not immoral for everyone. And vice versa. What is sexually moral for you is immoral according to others. One's sexuality should not be forced upon others.

Yes, they exist in the ego not in the 'heart'. Hazrat Inayat Khan's "salat" prayer includes this:

Let the star of the Divine Light shining in Thy heart
Be reflected in the hearts of Thy devotees.

Rumi:

I looked into my own heart. In that place I saw him.

Kabir:

Does Khuda live in the mosque?
Then who who lives everywhere?
Is Ram in idols and holy ground?
Have you looked and found him there?
Hari in the East, Allah in the West -
So you like to dream.
Search in the heart, in the heart alone:
There live Ram and Karim.

@sunrise; so you disagree with the original topic? You have no thoughts or anything about what Jesus had spoken to his disciples at that time? I do not understand those quotes you personally quoted for they are confusing to me; if you would like to put it in your own words what is being said that would helpful to me in understanding more of your premise from you yourself, thank you for commenting on this thread.

@Subduction Zone Sexual immorality is just one topic out of the rest of the other for mentioned problems of the heart that was spoken of about Jesus; do you see any other problems or thoughts about any other things?

I do believe it is wrong for anyone having sexual interactions with Children and or abusing Children!;

If people are gay, trans, or whatever it is they identify is personally does not bother me. That is between them and God, same thing with the children aspect, but you bet your bottom dollar if I hear of someone abusing a child in a sexual manner, or having cig burns on their hands I will alert authorities.

Abuse is abuse and it is not right for anyone to have to suffer abuse!

I have thoughts. And there were ways that Jesus was wrong at times. "The heart" is just poetic speaking so it is wise not to take it literally.

Hello;

Do you believe that any of these things exist in the human nature of the heart?

This was something Jesus Christ taught his disciples that reside in the hearts of men; and my question is what do you think about what He had told his disciples in Mark 7.

Now this is not me speaking, and just sharing. What are your thoughts on these thing? Are they true? Do they exist with-in man?

Heart Problems.
The capacity that manifests as these things exists in humans. From your list, envy, arrogance and foolishness might be more basal manifestations.

Yes. These things do exist. How we view them and rank them is a matter of opinion. Being foolish might not be evil in itself. Someone being dead in your eyes may not be evil and is certainly better than someone being dead your hands. No that dress does make you look fat may be a lie, but it is not such a terrible lie as I am going out with my friends honey, while actually spending time with other women.

Is a lie a lie? My mother use to tell me oh Matthew it is a little white lie. Do lies have colors? Black lie, green lie?

Nope a lie is a lie and sometime we might say to someone oh yes I’ll get with you soon and it is 6 months later. Or yeah I’ll go do that for you, and then you forget and it is two days later; and we ended up lying.

We all make mistake in life; and one of those is lying; I believe that I’ve lied to my mother plenty of times during my drug abuse days saying oh I’ll change mom just give me some money I’ll go put some in gas and go buy drugs.

@Dan From Smithville yes I would agree it is a matter of opinion on how a person ranks them and in fact how a person ranks the list presented by Christ; can feel superior if they are not doing that one thing,

According to Christianity if we failed in one area we failed in them all and that is why Christ Jesus came to save the world from the sins it committed and God loved the World (Earths population of human beings).

Which was paid for one time on the cross; in which the death and burial and resurrection by God became known afterwards and by faith we can have a relationship with God even though we are broken human beings because all of us need help in life, and that helps come by faith, love and walking by the spirit and setting our heart on and towards Jesus and God I believe, though others may disagree.

You never done any of those things in your own life: @Unveiled Artist, are you saying that you do not have any of those things in your own heart personally either?

Theft when I was a kid. Teen arrogance (don't know about now), and, of course, teen foolishness. These aren't part of my heart, no. I don't identify with negative behavior as a part of my identity. I do positive things "because" I'm not a sinner struggling to do good things because (they say) I am.

No. Not in my heart.

I know I do, for the most part; my flesh is an butthead. Especially if I let it run wild. I have deceived people for my own personal gain, lied many times to many people. I did not care about the way I lived; I was going to do whatever I desired. Abused my relationships in the past with the girls that were dated. I still make mistakes today however because of not being perfect.

Why do you identify with your flesh?
I personally don't believe that my "flesh" does bad things; aka I'm not defined by my flesh.

I'd say that your behavior may be a sin but I wouldn't say you inherently are a sinner in your heart just because you choose/not choose to do bad things.

I believe that it gives an reality check of who we are as human beings and how much Jesus Christ is needed in a persons life; because He changes the heart of human beings when seeking in looking towards Him.

What is your opinion about those who have a reality check and change their hearts by a spiritual practice or belief without christ?

I understand having jesus forgive you.... and I also understand we need to fix our behaviors on our own. But if you believe you are inherently sinful, I can see why you feel you can't change your heart alone. Though, not all think that way. It's alright to have different practices that help us with our "sins" but I don't know why there needs to be one way for all people if its one way for the majority.

Not really. Honestly, I think people are generally better than what I thought of them when I was a Christian. That's not to say that I trust everyone who's a stranger, but not everyone is evil. To characterize everyone that way is dismissive and unfair to their character, I find.

People are generally good, if not misguided; that's the fate for any being living a subjective existence, though. Most folks just want to live peaceful, happy lives. :)

You did not desire to steal those things in your heart? I’ve done that before to; I desired it in my heart so I took the thing and didn’t care if I was caught though in my heart I also did not desire to be caught either. Oh the thrill of the adrenaline. @Unveiled Artist

My flesh is capable of whatever it desire I live in a carnal body. Though my flesh and my heart is different. My heart is now no longer desirous of my selfish will; and has been changed towards the living for the will of God instead.

It’s like have two dogs they go out in the field and I don’t even have to move to think will I serve my flesh my self will or will I desire to live by the spirit and that is the thoughts that come from my heart of what will I choose to do I believe.

@SigurdReginson because of what Christ has done for the world I do not judge other people and what they do because everything they do at the end of life it will be between them and God. I can see why you would say everyone in general is good but I don’t believe that by our nature we are good; and that is what I believe Christ is speaking about is the nature of the human being in how we are not good. And how we need Christ in our lives and living and placing our hearts and minds on him and understanding the spirit that lives inside of us is what produces any good by and through faith in God. I can’t do good by myself I am going to continue to fail but I believe that God is there with me by and through faith to help me through this difficult world we live in.

According to Christianity if we fail in one area we failed in them all and as Christians we can sympathize with ourselves in understanding who we are as human beings which leads to having compassion and mercy on others by and through living in the spirit I believe.
