I use this question a lot online when talking to conservatives. Unfortunately, I never get a single answer as requested. There's always a paragraph of explanation instead of Yes/No.
Seems like a simple question to me.

So, let's keep this short and sweet. Poll results will be public.

    My Answer: Yes

Especially some who walk around like they have a chip on their shoulder daring for someone to knock it off.

I checked to be sure what "matter"
    even means.

    "Special significance or importance"

To me? No way, why would they be special to me?

"Love" or "empathy" for everyone is
spread so thin-there being some several
    billion people that its meaningless.

Most of those are far worse off than
America's black people who by the
stats are by far their own worst enemies.

Too bad, I wish them well but they are not special to me.

My choice of people to help happen to be
in the Philippines where people are seriously
poor, and just don't have opportunities.

I've helped with money to set up their businesses, paid for operations and tuition
and typhoon relief, well into six figures USD.

I dont guess they are special or that I am either.

    Who is?

I said yes, with reference to the movement, that they shouldn't be socially discriminated against because of their skin colour. I am also referring to the general social racist terminology as applying to a certain group of people distinguished by how racists perceive them, because to me there is no such thing as a black person, as those considered black do not have the same skin colour or culture as a whole. Xhosas aren't Zulus aren't Ndebele. Just like there is no such thing as a white person because greeks aren't italians, who aren't british etc. Different peoples and different cultures. Lazy people think in terms of race, which is far from accurate.

I don't judge people according to their skin colour but according to their actions, which are sometimes determined by culture, definitely not skin colour.

My answer is no. Most lives don't matter to me honestly, race is irrelevant.

I wish no one harm and hope everyone is able to find happiness but 1000's of folks die every day. Most I'll never know anything about. People who die that I actually know, sure it bothers me. Again race has never been an issue in this.

Some feel the need to divide people up by their "race" I really have no intention of joining in.

This is very true. Most people don't care about most people. We only care about things if we could be affected by it. So I wouldn't want people to be discriminated against because of skin colour because then people I know have the possibility of being affected, but it isn't because I care about everybody in the group. It is the reason why Americans are supporting Black Lives Matter but not another movement like "Kurds lives Matter" which is on the other side of the world, and who are actually getting killed.

    Generally, aye.

You probably don't get straight answers from conservatives because they suspect that you're playing "gotcha" or are using the question to force them into supporting things they don't agree with.

I don't want to see anyone harmed. If there is some action I can actually take I'm happy to do so.

"Caring" doesn't actually do anything except maybe make folks feel better about themselves.

Do you only care for those who have personal meaning to you? You would be okay if a group of people you don't know, were kidnapped and sold into slavery in the sex trade market and you heard about that? I think most people would care. Empathy is a human quality that evolution gave us. We identify ourselves with the plight of others, even those we don't personally know, out of basic human responses.

This is a great video I think you should watch. It's all science based, even though he makes the remark about religion getting certain things right upon occasion. It might help to change your perspective a bit on this. I'm sure you're not that detached from your empathy for others to say you just don't care.

    Yes... (Quick answer)

My kids matter to me, their father matters to me, his parents and friends matter to me. All life matters to me... (A bit longer answer)

Of course there are different degrees of matter

Yes. I think what matters is if your feelings aren't fleeting, but actually drives you to take action. Even if you take action, it could be the result of a sheep following the flock. If a movement stands the test of time as well because of genuine supporters then that shows that the people genuinely cared and it wasn't just a fad. Hopefully the Black Lives Matter movement is one of them and actually causes social change in the right direction.
