Divorce Rates for Conservative Christians Higher than for Atheists

The 87% is derived by computing the difference between the two 2009 figures. 60% (non-Christians) is 28 percentage points (pp) higher than the born-again Christian percentage of 32%. Dividing the 28 pp by the 32pp one gets an increase of 87% (Increase 32 by 87% (27) and you get 60---rounded up a bit).

.

I knew that's what you figured... But if you look closely, the red column does not represent the "non-Christians" in that graph. Only in the third graph.

The second graph compares only born again Christians, between those who think premarital sex is "wrong" and those who think it's "not wrong".

...they should have used different colors in the first two graphs. But the third graph is where you can do your math, and the numbers are 59 and 80... A 20% difference, not too stark.

And why are you supposing it's the born-agains rather than the non-Christians?

Because the options are "wrong" and "not wrong"... It would have to be the same question asked between both groups in order for the results to be precise.

Also, the title is "changing beliefs".

Only married once here as well.... only been married 31 years

The answer or part of it might be to council people not to rush into marriage.
But... need to see the breakdown of the data... Christians are redeemed and a work in progress not perfect
Newlywed, eh?
