DIR Forums Take Two

I needed to select 5 out of the 11 options to get all the DIR's my beliefs would belong under and I'm not even that eclectic.

Dharmic, since I'm a Tantric Shaivite, Left Hand Path since I'm a Tantric Shaivite/satanist, pantheist/panentheism since I'm a tantric shaivite partial to certain scripture (and was a pantheistic satanist before that and still find the term accurate), other religious movements and practices since... well I do magic and mysticism since I'm a Tantric Shaivite/satanist, and non-theistic/non religious beliefs since im a non-theist and heavily agree with a lot of points of atheists (I dont subscribe to supernaturalism) and am pretty heavily agnostic myself and am strongly against theism.

So I basically identify with two Left Hand Path types of thought; Kashmir Shaivism and Satanism. And yet I cover almost half of those options.

So if there is a limit, how will someone more eclectic than me fare?

If I really wanted, I could even extend myself to a couple of more DIRs, for example I might want to ask questions in the Jewish DIR since a lot of my views about Satan are informed by Talmudic lore and medieval Jewish beliefs, or maybe I just want to understand some aspect about their scripture without outsider input since I find the Jewish views interesting. Just as an example.

So when I could easily fit into over half, what becomes the point? Where is the limit drawn?

EDIT; Make that 5 to 8 out of 11, since I have an association with a lot of Uniterian Universalists and a local UU church. So I could checkmark Syncretic too, which makes sense anyway since my religion is a syncretic fusion of Satanism and Shaivism.

The overall goal is simple and that is to prevent people from posting without thinking. So, you had to at least choose and now you are less likely to post accidentally in a DIR that you have nothing in common with because it showed up in new posts and you are not paying attention.

That is just an example. New members were the ones that were really not aware of what DIRs were and were joining and just posting everywhere. Now they can not do that but still have the option to join what they feel they fit in.

I was just concerned because of the talk about possible limits in the future. But if it means one more step, then okay, but maybe at the top of where you select those DIRs a note could be put to make sure to read the DIR rule (I forget the number). So that plus being able to 'blacklist' certain trouble makers from certain DIRs... I can see the potential benefits.

Thinking back to my history in RF, the number of times I've posted in a DIR even to ask questions is a tiny, tiny percentage of my spouting off about this and that. So the impact on me is tiny, tiny. I suspect that's true of most people here.

I'm in a pretty similar situation and I was told in this thread to choose not more than 2-3 DIRs, with one of them being Syncretism:
I'd just like to remind people that Syncretic DIR is a thing. It's under-utilized, in spite of us having many syncretists here. What I would suggest for folks like @Liu is to hop in on syncretist area and select one other main DIR, maybe two.

So, would be nice if there was an official stance on this, instead of different users getting told different things.

Right now, until we reorganize the forums in the DIR, pick what will give you access to what you would have posted in before.

Okay, thanks for replying. I hardly ever post outside the LHP-DIR anyway, except for asking questions - but with those new rules I can't do the latter anymore unless I say that I really belong to the DIR in question, which often is a bit difficult to decide.
Let's see how it works out in practice now, though.

You don't have to do that.
The point to DIR is preventing the disruption of Discussion Of Religious communities. If you aren't doing that the staff has little reason to care.
If anything crops up in a DIR that I care about I will pick and get permission. I expect to wind up with "nontheists" and "Abrahamic" . Nontheists because I am one. Abrahamic because I have a strong interest in the Catholic church. I expect the staff will give me Abrahamic because they know I don't troll religious folks and I regularly defend Mother Church. I don't know for sure that they will, but probably. We will see.
I am not hurrying to do anything because the whole thing seems to be in flux, I will wait until I care before I bother.

There's a theme here which isn't well documented.....
To post in a restricted forum, one should identify as belonging to that group.
If one merely has a something in common with the group, that is insufficient,
& discussions with group members should be in an unrestricted forum.

Example:
To post in Feminist Only, one must call oneself a "feminist", in addition to fitting in philosophically.

Example #2:
The RF definition of "capitalism" includes "state capitalism", which is Soviet style socialism.
A fellow poster who is socialist was overjoyed that she could join us running dogs of capitalism.
(Mischief was affoot!)
But alas, her balloon was burst by recognizing that she did not embrace the label of "capitalist".

Note:
We used to have differently colored forums.
Green ones allowed civil discussion by all.
Blue allowed only the chosen.
All are effectively blue now.....but without the soothing color itself.

No, in previous comments here it was said that we are not allowed anymore to ask questions in DIRs when we stumble about something interesting there.
Instead, unless we identify with the religion of the DIR, we are to ask any question that we might have outside of the DIRs.

Too late now, but I was thinking at the bottom of our created posts you can have a disclaimer at the bottom: You are posting in X DIR are you sure you want to post.

The Rules seem to be chopped in half since I last saw them before revised. Maybe put a snapshot of how the DIR works now so new members wont feel pressured to pick all options just so they have a feel they can post in five DIRs when majority of us probably post in one if that. (Edit...you could emphasis that interfaith can supplement a lot of questions that would originally be asked in a DIR. Doing that will give newbies the chance to talk about the questions they ask.)

It's a BYO type of deal, but I think @Revoltingest has a store on Etsy if that helps:

That looks like the response I got the last time a sermon went a bit longer than anticipated.

Everyone thought I was being funny?

Must be because they know the people I speak to are better dressed and better equipped. (Everybody wants to light the Shabbat candles.) More like this-

[By the way, the fellow on the left wasn't actually there. He just photoshopped himself into the picture!]

Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!

Odd.....I'm still getting used to your sense of humor.
I just never thought of Jews as being funny, since they've no tradition of comedy.

In case it helps....
Brent liked my post. He is the top staff monkey, above even @Quagmire . The rules and systems are in flux as the staff try to do the best they can. Things could change daily, but nobody is trying to crush your identity and selfesteem .

Chill.

That's Brent sitting on Quagmire's shoulder.
You didn't know that, newbie?
