Difference between a language and a dialect

The Occitan language has had so much prestige throughout history.
Even Dante in his Divina Commedia writes 8 verses in Occitan.
Thanks to guys like him ...the Occitan is still praised and preserved.
And it is not a dialect.

I have never been to Southern France. Just North.
Is it true it is filled with incredibly handsome males like him^????

Yes it's true, If you are into handsome pensioners... At least where i live.

To most of those handsome pensioners french is their second language, Occitan their first

And many villages have their street name signs in 2 languages, French and Occitan

Some villages even have bilingual village markers.

Like in Sardinia, in Friuli.
Road signs have sometimes even three versions.
