...the faithful come to the mosque and take off their shoes so that they may enter the house of worship in bare feet...

"When he came to the Fire, a voice was uttered: O Moses! I am thy Lord, therefore put off thy shoes, for thou art in the sacred valley of Tuwa."-(HOLY QURAN 20:11-12).

(And God said to Moses), "Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground."-(EXODUS 3:5, also ACTS 7:33).

...but before entering the mosque, they make abultion, washing their faces, hands and feet...

"O you who belive! When you rise up to prayer, wash your faces and your hands as far as the elbows, and wipe your heads, and wash your feet to the ankles."-(HOLY QURAN 5:7)

"And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat; when they went into tent of the conregation they washed as the Lord commanded Moses."-(EXODUS 40:31-32).

...and in the mosque, the faithful face that Great Mosque in Mecca, whether in prayer, or reciting, or seeking the blessings of God in unisom with the faithful from all over the world...

"So turn thy face toward the Sacred Mosque, and (O Muslims), wheresoever ye may be, turn your faces toward it."- (HOLY QURAN 2:144).

"Now when Daniel...went into his house; and his window being open in his chamber towards Jerusalem,( Muslims too were praying toward Jerusalem till Allah ordered them to change toward the scared mosque in Mecca) he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and thanks before his God, as he did aforetime."-(DANIEL 6:10).

...the house is a place of peace and serenity, without images or idols of worship, and simple, with a carpet on which to stand or sit, and meditate.

"God forgiveth not (the sin of) joining other gods with Him;...one who joins other gods with God, hath strayed far, far away (from the Right)."-(HOLY QURAN 4:116).

"I am the Lord thy God...Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them."-(THE FIRST COMMANDMENT, EXODUS 20:2-5).

...and when the time of prayer is come, the faithful stand and bow before God, and make obeisance to Him, by touching the ground before them with their foreheads...

salat2.JPG

"O you who believe! Bow down and prostrate yourselves and serve your Lord, and do good that you may prosper."-(HOLY QURAN 22:77).

"And he (Jesus) went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed..."-(MATTHEW 26:39).

"And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship..."-(JOSHUA 5:14).

"And he (Elijah) cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees."-(1 KINGS 18:42).

"And they (Moses and Aaron) fell upon their faces..."-(NUMBERS 20:6).

"And Abraham fell on his face..."-(GENESIS 17:3).

salat4.JPG

...and invariably, the faithful spreads out his hands to God, asking forgiveness, seeking His blessings, beseeching His protection for mankind...

"Our Lord! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and defend us from the torment of the Fire."-(HOLY QURAN 2:201)

"...when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven (just like the Muslim kid above)."-(1 KINGS 8:54).

And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that Thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that Thou hast sent me.-(JOHN 11:41-42).

Thanks guys for your reply and this how all our lovely prophets were praying to God just the same as Muslims because They were Muslims to God before even Moahmmed (PBUH) was born.

Good question :)

God knows that there are some people will ask such a question and for example you so this is his answer to you and to anyone who ask about this issue.

2:142The fools among the people will say: "What hath turned them from the Qibla to which they were used?" Say: To Allah belong both east and West: He guideth whom He will to a Way that is straight.

2:143Thus, have We made of you an Ummat justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations, and the Apostle a witness over yourselves; and We appointed the Qibla to which thou wast used, only to test those who followed the Apostle from those who would turn on their heels (From the Faith). Indeed it was (A change) momentous, except to those guided by Allah. And never would Allah Make your faith of no effect. For Allah is to all people Most surely full of kindness, Most Merciful.

2:144We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens, now shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque. Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.

2:145Even if thou wert to bring to the people of the Book all the Signs (together), they would not follow Thy Qibla; nor art thou going to follow their Qibla; nor indeed will they follow each other's Qibla. If thou after the knowledge hath reached thee, Wert to follow their (vain) desires,-then wert thou Indeed (clearly) in the wrong.

2:146The people of the Book know this as they know their own sons; but some of them conceal the truth which they themselves know.

2:148To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good. Wheresoever ye are, Allah will bring you Together. For Allah Hath power over all things.

I don't care all that much about the thread, I just wanted to comment on what chuck said about god changing his mind. Didn't god change his mind numerous times in the story of sodom and gomorrah?

He couldn't answer ;)

Malus 12:9

Temporarily Deactive.
Matthew 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Matt 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

The Witnesses acknowledge that at times people bowed down before Jesus the same way they would to God the Father

1 Chron. 29:20
Then David said to the whole assembly, "Praise the LORD your God." So they all praised the LORD, the God of their fathers; they bowed low and fell prostrate before the LORD and the king," (NIV).

Jesus Worshipped God, Yet He Received Worship As God [font=Arial, Arial, Helvetica]Islam says the idea that Jesus is God is heresy. To Christians, Jesus being God is absolutely the truth. So in an Islam view, thatquestion would be a different answer, no?

i believe that they prayed basically the same way, however they certinally did not recite the same things. yes they washed, and put their faces to the ground. but then again we did not live in those times so we cannot be for sure.

Giving a gift to someone does not make them God. In your quotes from Matthew it is a poor english translation that misses the intention of the original language. the word that is translated as "worship" is proskuneo, which means:

1) to kiss the hand to (towards) one, in token of reverence

2) among the Orientals, esp. the Persians, to fall upon the knees and touch the ground with the forehead as an expression of profound reverence

3) in the NT by kneeling or prostration to do homage (to one) or make obeisance, whether in order to express respect or to make supplication

a) used of homage shown to men and beings of superior rank

1) to the Jewish high priests

2) to God

3) to Christ

4) to heavenly beings 5) to demons
this form of "worship" used does not mean that Jesus is God. it is meant as an act of respect. Jesus did not receive worship as God, he received "worship" as a rabbi and someone who deserves respect. the 1 Chronicles quote is not related to Jesus, it is related to worshipping God

i cannot say that God changed his mind. things did change, but i have not seen the original plan. sometimes temporary things are necessary to complete the ultimate goal. a friend of mine, when making a large sign, used a pencil to lightly draw lines for the letters before painting to make sure everything fit well on the board. she then painted over the pencil marks. this does not mean she changed her mind about using a pencil, it was only temporary until the rest of the plan could be enacted.

2 Samuel 7:18-29 and also 1 Chronicles 17:16-27 both record one of David’s inspired prayers. Please note David’s body position, “At that King David came in and sat down before Jehovah and said:”

If body position is as important as you claim, why is it that God allowed David to pray in a position other than what you have described and also had it recorded that it was expressed while not the proper position, at least according to what you are claiming?

many times when i pray and praise God i just sit and speak to God, or walk around and speak to God. I also do at least 52 rakat a day every day, 17 rakat being the minimum for muslims. just because i pray other ways and praise God in personal ways as well does not mean i do not do the mandatory prayers.

The Truth,

I think it is pretty clear that Muhammed acknowledged Jesus, as well as the other Biblical prophets, and it seems pretty clear that he claimed to be the last in the lines of Allah's prophets, so I would say, yes, Christians and Muslims are praying to the same God.
