Is Maher even a Democrat? I thought he was a libertarian.

We need a new thread, "Libertarians say the damnedest things."
Maher has claimed to be a libertarian, but he's also a socialist.
That doesn't comport with the N Americastanian (which he is) definition of "libertarian".
(Maher had just this argument with Andy Breitbart once.)
And I donna cotton to them strange Europistanian definitions of the word which include big gubmint speech regulate'n commies.

You could start a new thread.
We libertarians will say some of the most rassin frassin gol darned things.

Michael Skakel - "I'm going to get away with murder. I'm a Kennedy."

27 years later, a jury decided otherwise.

Well according to slick willy it's all the Republicans and the media fault for Hillary's email problems.

Guess he hasn't been following the continuing revelations about her problems.

Their problems are never by their own hand....it's always a vast right wing conspiracy.
Remember how Monica was a Republican agent who entrapped him?

Monica was always his doing or undoing as it were. But the witch hunt that led to that mess was still bogus. 'Let's look into this.. nothing there... let's try this... nope... okay what about in this corner.... nothing illegal... but hot damn, he got nookie in the white house! This justifies the millions spent on this investigation...'

It's always a "witch hunt" when one's favorites are attacked.
But it's never so when one's foes get a tit caught in the wringer.
(I've always liked that metaphor. What an image it creates, eh?)

Anyway, Bill's undoing was not the tryst, but rather how immaturely & despicably he handled it afterward.
Had he called me for advice, I'd have said.....
- Admit it, & apologize.
- Don't lie about it.
- Don't suborn perjury.
Those last 2 things were felonies, & really put wind into the sails of his foes.
Ordinary folk who did such things would serve prison sentences.
Politicians shouldn't get a pass for criminal behavior. Blago is the rare exception.

This was legitimately a sham of a investigation. The whole thing started about whitewater, where nothing was found. The investigator then proceeded to look into every possible angle of attack on the Clintons. That is, almost by definition, a witchhunt.

Tits in a wringer sounds painful. Thank you for putting that image in my head...

I completely agree that Bill botched his response. Hell, he agrees with that. But that kind of investigation is not legal under any other circumstance.

Every politician who makes missteps will find them exploited by the opposition.
Hillary isn't special. But she exhibits weakness & poor judgement.
This makes her vulnerable. That's how politics works....against Republicans too.
The Clintons just whine too much & too disingenuously about it.

It was perfectly legal.
But what I find interesting is how the Dems have no criticism for Bill's felonies.
Serious crimes are just ignored. Why? He's their guy.
If Bush had done the same, the Dems would be calling for his head.

Ethics.....it's not something to be practiced.
It's a weapon to use against opponents.

I never claimed that he was tried or convicted of such.
This avoids my claim that what he did was a crime...a felony.....er, crimes, & felonies (plural, you know).

Btw, if you quote me, then I receive an alert.
Otherwise I'm more likely to miss your post.
If he was not convicted of a felony then we cannot assume he committed a felony. "Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law". Capice?

BTW, I am in no way justifying what he did, and as a matter of fact, I felt he should have resigned from office but not impeached. I remember reading that some historians believe that about 1/3 of our presidents had affairs while in office. Matter of fact, the French, who I know you admire so much that you are immensely jealous of us, consider such affairs to indicate that the old codger at least is alive.

Because I am not a court of law in this country, I may opine about what is a crime.
And you may disagree. You may even believe him entirely innocent. That's OK.
It gives us something to discuss.

I don't find the tryst to rise to the level of an impeachable offense.
It's wrong, morally, as workplace conduct, & as something which would put him at risk of undue influence (threat of exposure).
But his subsequent handling was more serious.

The French....they;re always there when they need us.

But I'm always there when I want a real baguette, a delicious crepe, and a bottle of Bordeaux. Meanwhile, you can eat your heart out.
True story....
I was once seated on a plane next to a fellow from France.
He extolled the quality & variety of food available in America (his word for "Americastan") compared to his own country.
So you can enjoy your bread & vinegar.
I'll be having shawarma, zilzil wat, pad thai, pesto, pasties, guo tie, pho, tamales, palak paneer, BLT, etc, etc.

I can have all of the above as appetizers. :D

BTW, since you're local, my favorite restaurant is Ashoka in Troy followed by El Charros in Fraser and Evie's Tamales in Detroit. Since my wife is from Italy, we only rarely go out to eat Italian since we have it almost every day.

Tis good to have the variety you want.
It's one reason I live where I do.
