I am wondering how many of those who so strongly object is to the slogan “Defund the Police” and also very happy to see billionaires avoiding paying taxes. I wonder if they are capable of seeing the connection.

I wonder if Immanuel Kant’s Categorical Imperative would shed light on the situation. Nah, probably not.

Heh... I guess Trump was literally defunding the police himself.

... and the Department of Defense
    ... and the highway system
    ... and flood protection
    ... and forest fire fighting
    ... etc., etc.

What you need to understand about their worldview is that they fundamentally do not believe that human beings are equal or should be treated equally; rather, that worldview is based on an implictly hierarchical model of society, where there are people who deserve to be at the top, and people who deserve to be at the bottom of it; and when the people at the bottom get ideas above their station, they need to be kept down lest the entire social order be overturned and the wrong people end up on top.

It's not the billionaires' fault. It is the tax system. Why don't the politicians fix the tax system?

Things like Law enforcement Against Prohibition [LEAP] shows that not all police are douchbags or filth as commonly presented...although that latter shoe certainly defines a big segment of the industry.

Largely because they are strongarmed by lobbyists into not doing it. Also, a lot of politicians are extremely wealthy themselves, and they're unlikely to act against the system that benefitted them.

Essentially, wealth, power and influence are almost inseparable in America.

Well, we vote for them. Aren't we then ultimately to blame?

It was already mentioned in the threat but there are certain sections of people who believe in hierarchies. That there are some people who deserve to be on the bottom and some who deserve to be on top. That this was going to be either genetically or otherwise pre-determined. Like if you swapped a crackhead and CEO at birth the crackhead would still be a crackhead and the CEO would still be a CEO.

So they don't see the current system as oppressive or unfair. Its kind of like the karma system of Hinduism. People shoveling **** should have been smarter or made better decisions. They don't see the concept of privileged or opportunity. Its why these same people can say "can we stop making everything about race".

Because it's the billionaires who are paying the politicians to create a tax system just for them.

The politicians don't have to accept the payoffs, do they?

Great question. Why didn't Trump fix the tax system like he promised? He said his tax bill "will cost me a fortune". Did it? Or was that another lie?

He said in the 2016 campaign that he would (1) release his tax returns eventually and (2) he would close loopholes for rich people like himself, and not lower taxes on the rich.

Turns out this was a lie. Are you surprised?

No. They don't. But they do. Biden has over 100 billionaire donors. Do you really think he would create a wealth tax system knowing he took all that money?

My understanding is we don't yet know if he did anything illegal to avoid paying taxes. If his business suffered massive losses over many years, he can legally pay little to no tax.

It's possible Trump simply doesn't want further proof that he inherited a fortune and then suffered massive losses because he's not actually a savvy businessman. This would undermine a key part of his 2016 pitch, even if he's done nothing illegal.

It also shows he was lying (big surprise) when he outflanked Hillary to the left in 2016, by pitching that as a rich guy who has exploited tax loopholes, he knows how to close them. He said it wouldn't be a tax cut, it would just be a simplification of the tax code and it would end all these loopholes for the rich. It's easy to forget, since this was 20,000 lies ago, but that was actually a key part of his 2016 pitch. In the end he just gave the rich like himself a big tax cut, and the recent release by the NYT of his tax returns simply provides further proof of this.

For the system being entrenched in capital? Not really. People just vote for candidates - they don't vote for the system, they just participate in it.

Why didn't any president.... Because it is not the president. It's the House mainly. Even when republicans held the House they could agree on anything.

Am I surprised, no. I wouldn't release them either. My taxes, my business. You don't like it, don't vote for me. In any case, Trump's tax returns are irrelevant to the issue. Or are you actually expecting Biden to fix this?

just wondering this assumes that environment and circumstance plays no real role in personal development, which is a puzzling position to take, given there is reason to say otherwise since that CEO would likely become an addicted personality type to escape his harsh reality too if he had to go through the same experiences which made that other man what he is today.

Well Trump directly benefits from the current system, promised to fix it, and said fixing it would cost him a fortune. He promised to do these things before he had any record in government. Now he has a record. Now we know it was all a lie. So that's why it's relevant.

I don't expect Biden to fix this - as far as I know, he hasn't promised to fix it, like Trump did. (Maybe Biden did promise that, and I missed it.) Part of Trump's 2016 pitch was that he's (1) a savvy businessman who (2) has taken advantage of tax loopholes and (3) he'll fix those loopholes and it will cost him a fortune. Turns out only #2 was true, and that's why he didn't (doesn't) want us to see his tax returns.

Every other presidential candidate has released their tax returns going back to Nixon. And Nixon released his returns under audit and I believe during impeachment or under threat of impeachment.

Trump broke that precedent. Why? Because Trump First. America Second. He's trying to make the Trump family great again and tricked a lot of saps in America into helping him do that.
