I found a funny post on a Facebook group regarding autistics. So there was a picture of an autistic 3 year old sleeping under their mattress and the parent was asking if they should do anything about it. Looks comfy to me. I mean I love weighted blankets and deep pressure. I never tried putting an entire mattress on me tho. Now I kinda want to try it. Kiddo might be onto something there.

@JustGeorge did your kid do this?

I have found I cannot lift the mattress. So I guess I won't know if the kid was onto something

I don't know much about the phenomenon expressed in people, but there are insects that are thigmotactic and seek contact with objects by hiding in crevices and under objects.

I can't recall the oldest doing this, but sometimes the middle one sleeps under his pillow.

    I've always slept under mine...

Sleeping under the mattress might be a nice change.

When I was a child I liked to sleep with the covers pulled over my head. Now I have trouble getting to sleep if my legs are touching and I sleep with a body pillow to avoid the irritation.

I sleep curled up under the covers now.

My sleeping position seems more driven by comfort than being diagnostic of something. Sleep challenges are one of the biggest issues I face with any regularity. Unfortunately. I know when I have had a good nights sleep. At least there is that joy.

I sleep with the blankets over my head, laying on my back, with my legs crossed and my hands on my chest. I'm sure I look like someone who was just recently pronounced dead. :D

Legs together, hands on chest is the comfiest way to sleep in my opinion.

I was staying over at a friend's house once after a night out. They asked me to please stop sleeping like Dracula.

Well that's an interesting concept, I think maybe most animals are kind of like that, sort of using the environment as a sort of shield-extension for the body. Cats like boxes, all kinds of creatures hide under rocks. Even with early man, the idea of being housed, of the cave as being a proto-house, would seem to connect with the ancestral past, and anticipate what we would do with actual houses. And that psychology will still be involved when we go to live in space stations

I have found that sleeping on my back with torso slightly elevated and my hands on my chest is a very relaxing position, but I can't seem to stay in it for the duration and wake if I slide out of position.

It is very pronounced in roaches and earwigs. They seem to like pressure on all sides of their bodies.

I remember doing this long ago but not with a regular mattress. It was thinner. Also, people sometimes bundle up under multiple layers of quilts. For me it feels too constraining, because I like to flip. It feels nice though, particularly if the room is cool. Give lots of quilts a try.
