Wasn't quite sure where to post this so move it if you like ...

    Hope you're all well!

I have been meditating for about 30 years - with occasional lapses :)

If I had read this I might have changed my mind - no pun intended -

Willoughby Britton, the director of the clinical and affective neuroscience laboratory at Brown University, runs a support group for people like David—people for whom meditation has caused a psychological and physical crisis. Each week, she gets more emails from people who are struggling, asking for her help. “I’m seeing a lot of casualties,” she says.

The group connects online, where people of all ages and backgrounds across nine time zones come together and find solace in the company of others who are also suffering from the negative side effects of meditation.

So ... has anyone else had traumatic experiences with their meditation?

    Stay well!

    Jesus meditated.
There's an old saying: Prayer is when we speak to God. Meditation is when we listen for what God has to say.

    Meditation scriptures
Even Isaac of the OT meditated. Genesis 24:63
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2)

Yes, meditation can cause problems. If one is not able to clear the web of prejudices with meditation, then one may land into greater problems. Perhaps Jesus claiming that he was the son of God is one such instance. That is why it was considered necessary in Indic religions to meditate under the supervision of a guru. Have it loud and clear, meditation cannot make you levitate.

The misuse of any tool can cause harm to the one misusing it. People should not use tools that they don't know to use properly, for this reason.

We're too often searching for a something to cure everything we're bothered about. CBD, meditation, a particular diet or whatever. The article points out correctly that it's not for everyone all the time. And that having a competent teacher can be vital at least for some people.

One other thing I just thought of. There are many different forms of meditation. There is no one form helpful to all people at all times. Knowing the different forms and which form might be helpful to a person at a particular time is not a simple thing.

I did a sort of meditation/trance once to connect with my true self/highest self. I invoked the power of the planet Neptune and one my gods. Afterwords, I had a little time dissociating because of how intense it was.
