"Creationist: Yes, a Boy Drowned at My Park, But His Siblings 'Had a Blast Here' "

Yes there has been much diversity of thought among self-identified Christians since the crucifixion. Being a follower of Jesus, his ministry, would be a common core but things diverge from there.
Yeah, you're right.
From Cortez to Gandhi to Trump, things have diverged.

Oh wait, sorry.
Gandhi wasn't a Christian.

"Yesterday, Creationist Kent Hovind spoke on his daily YouTube show about the 7-year-old boy who drowned at his “Dinosaur Adventure Land” (a low-budget Creation Museum) on Sunday.

The boy had allegedly slipped on a dock and fallen into a pond before being proclaimed dead at a local hospital.

Instead of expressing any sympathy for the family, or explaining how things would change at the park moving forward, Hovind briefly discussed what happened, before talking about how the rest of the family’s day was just great and mocking someone on Twitter who noted the incident occurred.

(04:17- 05:50)

We had, this last Sunday, rumors going around the internet about an accidental drowning here at Dinosaur Adventure Land, and it’s true. There was a family with five kids, twin seven-year-olds, all playing in the lake together. The water was three feet deep. Suddenly the dad noticed that Steven, the 7-year-old, was gone. And he apparently slipped on the dock and hit his head. Nobody saw. We don’t know. But he did drown in our lake. And we tried — [to someone off-screen] your wife is a medical doctor, and she’s right there on the scene with him. As soon as she got him out of the water — we don’t know how long he was underwater — she gave him CPR, probably did everything right, took him to the hospital…

[Chatter off-screen]

Yeah, I mean… it’s just… too late. We don’t know what happened.

Anyway, the kids had a blast here, and the dad wants to bring all the kids back and loves the place…"

My point in bringing this up: there is absolutely no expression of sympathy whatsoever.

In fact:

"Anyway, the kids had a blast here,"
"Anyway"!!!?

It does seem a bit strange that he said that in the context of such a horrible tragedy.

I remember reading about some incidents that occurred at Disneyland which were played down or kept as quiet as they could. They want their theme parks to be thought of as happy places, not places of tragedy and death.

This would happen with most corporations. The show must go on, it's business as usual.
Nothing to do with the existential issues of religion. Atheists can be worse.

So do you think he is heartless because he is a creationist? Or because a Christian in general? Are you going to post links to reports on atheists who act this way (of course you won't)?
I did not think that @Skwim meant it Christian being the problem

Just this man's words proved he was a human lacking compassion and empathy.

Of course, if creationist means Christian, I think, that it's good he is a Christian, because he definitely still needs to learn a LOT from Jesus' compassion and empathy.

Hovind is various things ─ a human of low IQ, a perjurer (so found by courts), but above all a fruitcake.

No person in any kind of balance could treat the death of a child like that.

Apparently, "Young Earth Creationist" doesn't necessarily imply "pro-life."

It Aint Necessarily So

I'm surprised that he isn't still in slam.

Neither.

Christianity claims for itself to be a system of beliefs and moral values that generates better people. Its adherents describe it as a moral and societal glue that civilizes people, and equate its decline in the West with declining behavior there.

But what we see is that Christianity had no beneficial effect on Hovind. He's an academic fraud, a convicted felon, and now a sociopath.

Just like a medicine that claims to make people better has a duty to make people healthier, a religion that claims to make people better people needs to generate better people. If they're just as bad (or worse) than people with no religion, the claim is falsified.

This would happen with most corporations. The show must go on, it's business as usual.

It's bad business to be in the religion business and come off as sociopathic. This man doesn't know what to say at a time like that, just like his president. A successful sociopath conceals his indifference.

Yep, we all fall short (some obviously more than others!).

An example please

Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot.
Stalin studied for the Orthodox priesthood.
Mao's parents were Buddhist.
Hitler's mother was Catholic
Pol Pot was Buddhist.

When the year 1900 rolled around many people felt that the new century was
going to be wonderful because there's no more church, no more monarchy.
Quarter of a billion people died in secular conflict and hate.

I reckon most Creationist Fundamental Christians likely take comfort in the belief their dearly departed loved ones are now in Heaven, which is even a better place than a Creationist Dinosaur themed water park..
