Featured threads are threads that are in the religious, non-dir sub forums that get decent traffic, feedback, and ratings. I think I hit the main parts of it.

If I am not mistaken, the forum software brands some threads as featured due to its statistics, in order to attract attention to them.

I don't think they are directly set up as featured by human intervention, but maybe I am mistaken.
