Cop Culture....Thugs, Bullies, Overlords

It's very common for people to be arrested when doing
nothing illegal. It's often because the cop gives an illegal
order, & the civilian won't bow down, & do as ordered.

You have the right to be silent. It's in the Constitution.
But few cops are familiar with that piece of paper. It's
not part of their training. When called on it, they'll even
say they don't care. Why should they...they have immunity.

Even if they are aware of the right to record them, to be
on public property, & to remain silent, they'll often arrest
people anyway. They know that no charges will be filed,
but it's a way to degrade, dehumanize, & inconvenience
people they dislike.

Our best recourse isn't our politicians. Joe Biden led the
charge to expand police powers, & put many more people
in prison. We must use the civil courts to win damages
against the government that employs these criminals.

An example of an attorney exercising her right to be
silent. Officer Tyrantasaurus will have no truck with that.

Saw a video of a guy being arrested for going door to door with a petition yesterday.

How did a country that is so hysterical about "freedom" end up with a police force like this?

Freedom is paramount to many of us.
But a great many don't care.

Cops love their own freedom to do as they please.
But their us-vs-them attitude means this freedom
doesn't extend to civilians. And most people aren't
horribly victimized by cops, so it's someone else's
problem. Recordings & youtube are changing this.

Boot slurpin'; fetishizing and hero worshiping those in uniform.

An idiot looking for a confrontation.

She obviously had nothing to do that evening. :D

Our UK cops do stops differently, it seems true to say.
They always explain why they've stopped a vehicle and then take things from there. They always explain if they want to search a vehicle or passengers.

Only violent or high-risk offenders get handcuffed in the UK.

But that's UK cops. Any who do things differently will be out of line.

They should explain right off why they stopped anyone.

Your post exhibits exactly the kind of cop mentality that we
must eliminate. If someone is an idiot...even though it's
not a crime....you approve of cops arresting innocent
people.
Is that you were when a security guard...you'd arrest
people just because you were annoyed. Or did you
give them a "tune up", ie, rough them up to teach'm
a lesson.

We have a right to not answer questions. It's in our
Constitution. That cop should be prosecuted for
an illegal arrest. A year in prison would teach him.

You could learn something....

Yes.
They do in the UK
It's policy in many departments here.
But many ignore policy.
Why?
Sometimes it's a fishing expedition, ie, they
want to discover a reason that justified the
traffic stop. This brings up an important reason
to remain silent....you might accidentally
incriminate yourself, even for a crime you
didn't commit.

As this lawyer explains, it's an adversarial system.

I think they said he was "soliciting without a permit".
That's because asking about signing a petition isn't illegal.
So cops will mischaracterize what's going on so that a
legal act becomes illegal.
BTW, I've seen that video. It could also be that the
petitioner was a black male. This can make one look
suspicious. This happened just down the road from
Revoltistan....

It's not that you can't post here.
But N America is the context.
To openly express disinterest in & dismissal of the
topic because of the location...that's the problem.
Other countries have some of the same problems.
For posters there to weigh would be useful.

Here's an example of a cop who knows how
to de-escalate a situation....

This case shows a cop trying to abuse a man in
custody. Look what happens to the cop who
intervenes to stop the illegal abusive behavior.
Only one cop intervenes....the others stand by,
even as the bad cop chokes the good cop.

One context you need to consider is, a career criminal would not be able to make a career of crime if he was arrested every time he committed a crime. He needs to be able to victimize dozens of people between getting caught. These dozens of victims who were violated by him, may never receive justice, since he got away with it and was neither caught or indicated. Many will be left afraid and some will lose their innocents toward other people.

Cops often know who these career criminals are, but the best you can do with the system, is catch these career criminals for a specific crime, and make a case, so they spend time in jail for that single crime. All the dozens of victims who led up to that arrest, also weigh heavily on you and sometimes you can justify giving the criminal a taste of his own medicine; avenging angel. Sometimes those with long rap sheets become an unprovoked victim to begin this pay back, for his debt to all those nameless victims, who will never see direct justice.

The mistake Leftist make is they cannot or will not see beyond the moment; person is stopped at the street corner. They ignore the past and the lingering injustice that some criminals have created for so many people. In this bigger context harassing a known victimizer, when the criminal is off duty, is pay back. The job of the police is to protect and serve. Since this long line of victims were not protected well enough, some police feel guilt but realize they can still serve them, by making the life of their criminal assailant, a living hell.

My goal is police reform such that "to protect & serve"
is universal. Cops simply aren't trained to do this.
They're poorly vetted for suitability for the responsibility,
they're poorly trained in the law & people's rights,
they're trained to be far too violent,
& they're just not held accountable for wrongful acts.

I believe we need fewer but better cops. This means
longer better training for highly appropriate candidates
who should receive much higher pay for being true
professionals. Many functions given to cops should
be transferred to unarmed people trained to handle
mental illness & conflict resolution.

It was just in the news in my home town that cops
will be augmented with unarmed people to handle
many 911 calls. Small progress....but still progress.
