I have been an off and on coin collector over the years. Now, nothing serious. I still have some interesting odds and ends, like old Chinese coins, and some privately minted coins from the USA.

I collected as a child. I have a couple of three-cent pieces, a decent collection of Mercury dimes, and a number of Liberty walking half dollars.

Not a collector but i have 5 roman coins added to my collection of artifacts of the early empire.

And an indian head silver dollar my grandfather gave me when i was a child. I am afraid its a bit battered, i used it as a toy .

Yes, and hot tabasco sauce. Wash well after cleaning to remove the acid (vinager)

Allow the silver to oxide naturally. Do not clean it.

I collected coins seriously as a kid.
Now I just have a small box I toss older odder stuff in....
Wheat pennies, buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes, steel pennies.
Collecting machinery is much more fun, & a good excuse to
own cranes, forklifts, & other heavy equipment.

My profile photo is a wooden nickel from my collection. I'm a type collector other than Lincoln pennies which I collect the set. I have cents, Large cents, three cent nickels, Barber everything. I have token's, foreign coins, lots of silver, proofs and uncirculated sets. Everything except the pennies are common years and circulated condition usually VF. The most expensive thing I bought was the US trade dollar VF condition, I sold it a few years ago. I carry a large cent piece for luck with me.

Do not treat the coins it devalues them. You can get proper holders for them at any coin dealer and get a safe that is not fire proof for the coins. Fire Proof safes uses humidity to stop the fire's.

I will buy a coinage magazine once a year to update my prices. There's 2 on the market and both have the US price guide and will in select months include other guides, like foreign or commemoratives. Most coin sites are fairly accurate, there will always be negotiations from the dealer on buying and selling.
