Christians! If You're Not Offending People Then You're Doing It Wrong

"Christian leader and seminary president John MacArthur, last seen ignorantly saying racism doesn’t exist in any “authentically evangelical church,” wants Christians to know that it’s okay if their religious views are offensive to outsiders. In fact, they should be offensive. If they’re not, then surely they’re doing Christianity wrong.

During an interview, author and conservative personality Ben Shapiro asked MacArthur how he addresses certain “difficult Scriptures,” pointing in particular to passages addressing homosexuality.

MacArthur, who is leader of Grace Community Church of Sun Valley, California, and president of The Master’s College and Seminary, said that,

" while there’s “no getting around” the fact that the Bible clearly identifies homosexuality as a sin, it’s important to understand it’s “not some kind of sin that leads the parade and is separated by light years from all other sins.”

. . .

“The whole purpose of the Christian message is to confront the sinner’s sin so you can call the sinner to repentance and forgiveness,”

he continued.

“The sinner doesn’t like that.”

Acknowledging that such a perspective is considered offensive by today’s standards, the pastor asserted that his goal

“is to offend everyone.”

The early church fathers would likely be surprised to learn that their faith is characterized by the issue of homosexuality: an issue that did not exist then in the way it does today, because the concept of sexual orientation was virtually unknown. In fact, the word “homosexuality” did not make its debut into the English language until the late 19th century and wasn’t used in Bibles until the 20th century. So homosexuality was only recently a hot-button issue among conservative Christians.

So, all you non-Christians out there, are Christians being offensive enough, or are they shirking their duty?

If you like, please let us know which Christian is best at offending you the most, and maybe why.

Firstly I'm not offended because being offended is a choice I make and has nothing to do with how people act or what they say. That said those that incorrectly assume their right and everyone else is wrong really start getting up my nose.

All this really boils down to is that he's saying Christians shouldn't be afraid to have their traditional conservative values and beliefs in a world increasingly hostile to them.

It's only fun when we take something literally.

I don't need to "buy" what the fundamentalists are "selling" including buying into their frame-of-reference either positively or negatively.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
MacArthur is doing a wonderful job of being offensive. So much so, he's clearly on the defensive over his offensive nature.

Dang, I cant believe that's John McAuthor, he's aged since I used to listen to him in the early 90's.
I remember fundamental pastors having some problems with his ideas on the blood of Christ.. so much so they called him a heretic and warned people not to listen to him.

Personally I have never got offended because the source of their offence is very shallow. I find they are actually more defensive than offensive. Their claims are like listening to a Greek priest or priestess screaming the judgement of the volcano God as said by ancient writtings and legends. The problem is when the priest or prophets start controlling government and forcing religious inspired laws on all people.

It is prophesied that the majority would come to be offended by the truth.

It is a sign of the end times.
