Now, I've had plenty of conversations with people about forgiveness. They've often said things like, "You can forgive them, but that doesn't mean you'll let them do it again." In other words, you "forgive" them but still treat them differently. But how is that forgiveness? The Lord makes it clear that when he forgives us, he remembers our sins no more. (
Isaiah 43:25,
Jeremiah 31:34,
Hebrews 8:12)
How is it right that when we forgive others we have this authority to still remember their sins? Have we really forgiven them if we still treat them like sinners?[/quote]
I am an
extremely fortunate person; I
do get upset by things that people have done (which might be seen as them having sinned against me), but, whenever I say the Lord's prayer, and come to the "Forgive us..as we forgive........."bit, I realise that I can only see my own sins, and yet have already justified others' sins against me, and therefore have forgiven them.
Sometimes, there is a sin against me that I cannot forget, but that doesn't mean that I bear a grudge; it is merely remembering an unpleasant occurrence.
