Featured Christians are hypocrites when they use the Old Testament to rebuke people

I hear Christians rebuke people all the time using Old Testament verses. That is totally hypocrisy because I can prove none of those Christians follow the Old law anyway. If they did, they would believe people should be executed for working on the wrong day of the week, adulterers should be stoned, and victims of rape should marry their rapist.

    They quote verses like this:
Don't think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn't come to destroy, but to fulfill. For most assuredly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished. Whoever, therefore, shall break one of these least commandments, and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.

While they ignore Matthew 22 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

He made it clear which law he wanted people to fulfill.

Christians love to quote the Old Testament to condemn others about "sins" that the New Testament says nothing about ( like graven images or contacting the dead).

First off, God approved of graven images in the Old Testament and even worked miracles through them. The new testament says nothing condemning the use of images to enhance one's spirituality or to use as decorations. Jesus would have known that Christians would use icons and statues, yet he said not a thing against the practice. It shows how much he or Paul or the Apostles even cared about the issue.

Also, contacting redeemed souls in Heaven is not condemned anywhere in the Old Testament. What is condemned is occult practices of holding séances where spirits are summoned from the pits of Sheol. According to Christian Theology, Christ atoned for all sins with his blood and redeemed the souls of the dead. Scripture says "The Gospel was preached to the dead".

Redeemed souls/spirits was not what the Old Testament was referring to, because spirits had not yet been redeemed (according to Christian Theology). Also, much of what was condemned in the Old Testament as being sinful was later permitted in the New Testament. See Acts chapter 15 when the Apostles decided the Law of Moses no longer needed to be practiced. If it is okay to talk to people while they are alive, why is it such a sin to talk to them after they leave their body behind?

So Christians quoting the Old Testament is nonsensical and hypocritical when it is used to judge, rebuke, correct, or condemn others!!!

Any Christian who would rebuke anyone is a hypocrite, and Jesus does not approve
They actually do throw the 10 Commandments out, get confused, and call another list of rules the 10 Commandments. This false 10 Commandments is what they fight to get in court houses. The actual 10 Commandments--according to what the Bible calls the 10 Commandments--has been thrown out to the point that not many people realize that Christians have got it wrong for a very long time.

I don't personally know any Christians that quote OT passages to condemn others. It seems to me that you are on a militant mission to attack Christians, the Bible, and God. Yet, while you accuse Christians of being hypocritical if they reference the OT, you hypocritically reference it to say God approved of graven images out one side of your mouth, then say the OT is no longer relevant.

The fact is that not only does the OT clearly have many passages forbidding graven, carved, or molten images, but the NT has A LOT to say about idol worship. Having statues or images which one venerates or believes has some sort of spiritual power, ability to help, or connection to God is nothing more than idol worship which clearly does violate Jesus' words to ..."Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.".
The same would go for contacting the dead or any practice where someone is seeking spiritual guidance or wisdom from something/someone other than the Creator of heaven and earth.

Asking a soul in heaven to pray for you is not idolatry. Christians use the Old Testament to condemn people all the time.

The Bible says we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. Asking a human friend to pray for you is not a sin. Asking a soul in heaven to pray for you is not a sin or Idolatry.

Scripture says we are one body in Christ and branches connected to the vine which is Christ.

When a person dies they do not cease to be a member of the body of Christ, therefore we are connected.

The Bible does not condemn any such thing. And your claim that it is idolatry is so silly that is completely laughable.

You must enjoy being easily proven wrong. ;)

It amazes me how people distort the Bible. Particularly those who do not even agree with the God of the Bible! I am perplexed.

I think the problem lies in "impose", "belittle", "demean" [evangelizing]. Does not matter if they shoot with OT or NT. Christians had it coming when people shoot back IMHO.

I hope @Epic Beard Man notices the fact that I dis Christianity more than Islam.

I noticed you only seem to have objection or comment when I say negative things about Islam.

For the sake of balance, I argue far more with Christians in real life and here.

So if they don't follow it then are they Christians? If the definition of a Christian is someone who is Christ like and Christ is the word of God, then it is far to say that those who do no live by the word of God are not Christians but sinners and they need to repent.

And thinking about it for a different perspective. People need to stop blaming or point fingers at others and start looking at their lives. Change yourself and then start worrying about changing others.

I can point out verses in the Bible that I'm sure you do not follow.

That would be true, if the Bible did not say "Judge not....."

But if they decide not to follow that verse from the Bible that's fine also. And when they start telling me "I am a sinner" then it is my duty to tell them "If you impose your doctrine on me, I won't talk to you again". If all people do this, then the evangelisers have nobody to evangelise. So the non Christians can easily stop evangelising now.

Agreed. And if you change yourself, and you are perfect then you won't even consider "worrying about changing others"

My friend, no offense to you, but I’ve had this discussion with someone else and found several verses encouraging righteous judgement. So I won’t engage in this one.

I don’t think that’s how it works. If we are perfect, then we would need to image others (whether through speaking or simply living an exemplary life). Especially if the things they do effect us in many ways. I find that we can connect this to Imperialism.

Once you’ve effected change in your life that results in perfection, it would be wise to reach out to others who may be struggling. And it would be wise for those who aren’t looking to simply decline. Those who decline should leave those who reach out alone.

They have the freedom to speak against them, but ultimately if the decliners aren’t looking for change then they shouldn’t seek to change others. It’s just hypocrisy.

It's so easy to win an argument with you because what you say is ludicrous and easy to prove wrong!

The catechism of the Catholic church is the official teachings of the church and it strongly condemns idolatry and says the Lord is God and there are no other gods.

The official teachings of the church says that invoking the Saints is only to be done in a christocentric way.

The Saints are believed to be one with Jesus Christ and that is the only reason they can be invoked.

Jesus Christ saved them and redeemed them. Catholics are only permitted to honor them and ask them for their prayers.

Is it idolatry to ask you for prayers? I didn't think so!

It is easy to prove what Idolatry is, and Idolatry in the Catholic church is forbidden.

Do you have any other falsehoods you would like to share?

By the way, as far as faith and morals go, I'm not even Catholic. Neither do I get along with the average Catholic. I actually have a repugnance for many Catholics.

But I will defend the Catholic church in the face of all of the falsehoods that are spoken about it, which you have repeatedly done a fabulous job of speaking what is easy to prove to be falsehood ( not to mention hypocrisy.)

Way to go! Give yourself a pat on the back!:clapping:

Agreed. Condemn people is "Ad Hominem Attack" if not much worse. And should not be done IMO, and definitely not on RF, as it is against the rules of RF (rule 8)
Agreed. If they don't follow it, by "condemning people" they maybe should not be calling themselves Christians. But Only God knows if they are Christians IMHO.
Nice definition. Christ IMHO was kind of perfect. Not easy to be Christ like, but it's a very good goal to strive for.
1: You can say so, but I don't think it is smart. God alone is the Judge of "who is or is not a Christian". Never I like to sit on God's throne to make that judgment call.
2: Not fair to say "you are a sinner". On RF (rule 8) this is called "Ad Hominem Attack" and gets you an official warning. But besides that, "sitting on God's throne is worse"

You can say "In my humble opinion I believe that `those who do no live by the word of God are not Christians`, but that is as far as you should go on RF"
You can say "In my humble opinion I believe that `those who do no live by the word of God are sinners`, but that is as far as you should go on RF"

I do remember, I think the Bible also says this, "All are Children of God"
So I rather say "You are a Child of God" AND never say "You are a sinner"
