Christian Influence: Sheep Among wolves

Mathew 10, specifically to the end of the chapter. This sounds like a fairly severe discussion. It starts with Jesus having equipped his disciples, then on to telling them what to expect. He even suggested that it's expected of them to fear in some cases. He told them to stay clear of certain people. He informed them of the dynamics that will take place and how to handle the events. He suggested it would be difficult and would require endurance, suggesting that some would die and that if they were able to endure, they could continue living and be saved. This wasn't about bringing peace, knowing a sword was set against those were against the effort. He goes on to comfort them with "fear not" and while illustrating two dead sparrows and his father's involvement, he suggests to them that they don't walk alone.

It appears this would resemble a time of war and sending troops out in peace with an enemy waiting for them as if they would be viewed as prey. Who is able to give this confidence or maybe it was more about the reality, and them having no choice. The best Jesus could give them was a pep talk and to make sure they understood the dangers.

I've heard different views of this, typically to the tune of a "No worries-Be happy-God got this" type of rendition. I see it differently than to be without worry. Quite the contrary. These = Dangerous times. What do you think?

Mathew 10

Apparently, this isn't ending either and much like they who had no choice; so are we without choice:

2 Peter 3:9
