Most universal health care systems in the world do indeed have insured cost sharing i.e. deductibles or copays, if taxpayers/employers were to pay every dollar of everybody's health care, then you would have more demand than available resources for health care. In other words, you'll get highly restrictive health care rationing or long waits to get medical treatment.

It's not just corporations, now it's also foreign countries. Anyone that can pay the bribe money can get the U.S. legislature to give them lots of money. We give the Israelis billions and they get national healthcare and free higher education. And all they have to do to get all that money is send a little bit back as bribe money to our politician's campaign funds. They've been doing it for years. Now countries all over the globe are getting in on the scam. The word's out; the U.S. Congress is 'open for business'.

If the role of the U.S. federal government were limited to national defense, securing our national border and regulation of interstate commerce, then there'd be almost zero national debt. The states can handle the responsibility for education, and some social welfare spending.
