even if you're in the correct bracket for Medicare and Medicaid, the only pay about 80% of your cost. Which can mean that if you get cancer you will still be expected to pay tens of thousands of dollars. This is simply unobtainable for thousands of citizens.

You pay more into healthcare through privatized insurance than anyone in Canada does for NHS. We pay billions out of pocket to meet deductibles, artificially inflated service and medication costs. A single payer system which doesn't funnel billions of dollars into corporate pharma would save way more money, just not for those who benefit from Big Pharma lobbyist.

Most universal health care systems in the world do indeed have insured cost sharing i.e. deductibles or copays, if taxpayers/employers were to pay every dollar of everybody's health care, then you would have more demand than available resources for health care. In other words, you'll get highly restrictive health care rationing or long waits to get medical treatment.
