Methodism began as a movement within the Anglican Church. The Anglican Church is an offshoot of the Catholic church. The Catholic church traces itself back to the church established by the apostles.
Methodism follows the teachings of John Wesley. It is therefore NOT Calvinistic. Methodism was the first expression of the Holiness movement, which emphasizes the importance of good works in a way that sometimes other versions of Protestantism do not. Besides Anglicanism, Methodism is related to other holiness denominations such as the Church of the Nazarene.
