I believe he is asking what is the meaning of the English language.

Isn't the goal of any language to facilitate communication?? That's the only meaning it has.

Isn't this a bit like asking someone to define the universe.:D

I did a Yahoo! search and came across this page that seems to have some decent information on the origin and history of the English language.

Perhaps you could peruse this and ask a specific question that someone here could answer.:)

Specific words have meaning. Language is just the facilitation of communication. No whole language has a meaning unto itself.

Not true Hebrew holds the meaning (at least to the hebrews) of being the words of God given to man as a gift when he first spoke to Adam

Language both defines and creates "the world around us" in symbols. Language is both the symbols and the relationships they describe, that we have to the world around us.

Based on the amount of difficulty people have actually getting their ideas across, I defy the claim of language as a facilitator of communication. ;)

It's exactly that, though perhaps not in the way you meant.

Actually, I would have gone with English lessons. Dictionaries tend to be miserably poor at teaching you essentials such as grammar and punctuation.

If I may ask, how do you mean? I'm not sure 'the meaning of the English language' has any connection with 'theological concepts'.

What is the meaning of LANGUAGE? To communicate

English, as far as I know, is no more special or unique than any other language.

The Concise English Dictionary, some book. It is great that I do so believe that a forum such as this one does give people chance to try and get their ideas across.
If we all met down the local coffee shop or pub, it would most probably be a nightmare. Everyone trying to explain their own self, through the vocabulary that they believe explains themselves to others( We would have to move in for a month or two. Plenty of Words in the English language, more and more will be added as we evolve.
