"CA Mayor Removes Pledge of Allegiance from Meetings Because Trump is the Worst"

"Ford Greene, the mayor of San Anselmo, California, just pulled a move designed to infuriate conservatives who prefer symbols of patriotism over actual love of the country.

He decided, unilaterally, to end the practice of saying the Pledge of Allegiance at town council meetings. Why? Because it’s a mindless ritual… and because Donald Trump is an ***.

Greene said after the meeting his decision to dump the pledge is intended to demonstrate his continuing disdain for President Donald Trump. In October 2017, Greene began taking a knee during the Pledge of Allegiance at any event he attended, including council meetings.

Regarding his decision to remove the pledge from the Town Council’s routine, Greene said, “For my taste, it’s a little too rote an action. It smacks too much of mindless obedience in a time when independent thinking and independent municipal action is at a premium because there is so little happening on the federal level.

“Over the course of the last two years, as I’ve been taking a knee, I turn around and look at everybody,” Greene said. “People’s hearts don’t really seem to be in it. They’re just doing something out of custom. What’s the point?”

So, has the Pledge of Allegiance been reduced to a mindless ritual? Something that's been so often repeated that it's lost just about all import in the minds of most Americans. That people may as well be reciting Mary Had A Little Lamb?

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under god, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

Words have power and this short pledge is filled with power. I am filled with honor each time I recite it.

First and foremost the pledge is all about the US Republic in whole, no organization, state or people is mentioned One nation
Indivisible, no more civil wars, it was written in 1892 where the civil war was still fresh in the minds of the people.
Liberty and Justice for all, even though it is still not true, it is the right goal for this nation.

We are not pledging loyalty to a King, President or any type of Head of state. We are not pledging loyalty to a state but are pledging loyalty to a republic defined as (a group with a certain equality between its members.) original definition. We are indivisible as a Republic. We believe in Liberty and Justice for all (all members of the republic)

The original pledge did not have God in it and can do without having God again, that is about the only thing I would change.

Except, yesterday I watched a bunch of Senators say that pledge out loud, and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that they did not mean a goodly part of it.

To me, it's exactly the same thing as mindless repetition of the Apostle's Creed in church -- making people say what they don't, in fact, actually believe.

The things I truly believe, in my heart of hearts, I do not need to recite daily. Instead, I live them -- minute by minute.

We are indivisible as a Republic.
I see quite the opposite.
The Pledge is now used to divide us. It's just one of the ways we are becoming more fractured as a nation. That's the real point to The Pledge today. Divide the USA into "Conservative Christians" and everyone else.

Division. That's the point to it.

Please explain how it divides us. I rarely come about it except in debate. I do use it in the Boyscouts and the Masons but other than that it never comes up. I am a moderate agnostic that goes to a christian church and it is never said in my church or church activates.

Pledging "Aliegance" to a piece of cloth seems weird to me. I haven't liked reciting it for several years now. I've still put up with the show at my kid's scout meetings, but those are over now, so hopefully I can avoid reciting it from here on out.

Lots of people, myself included, gag on the divisiveness and falsehood of The Pledge as currently required by law.

Every time I'm pressured into reciting it I am reminded that it's designed to divide the country into "Conservative Christians who believe the b.s., and the rest of us."

The original author of what used to be The Pledge didn't write that or intend it. Bellamy's intention was to create a unifying pledge for children. But political operatives high jacked his Pledge, and now use it to cause division amongst adult citizens.
And it works. Every time I stand for it I'm reminded of how far this country is from the goals The Pledge espoused. And how The Pledge is used to keep pushing us further from those goals.

That's what the socialist Democrats have been relegated to.

Hating the country.

Hating the American flag.

Demeaning those who actually do love the country and the American flag.

Yet they absolutely are obsessed with the power and the money that comes with American politics in a smug self-serving and entitled manner as they continue to attack this country from the inside.

Watch the debates this election year and see how many socialist Democrats wear the American flag on their lapel. A few might, but most won't.

You can count on it because that's the type of people socialist Democrats are.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about the pledge made for the oath of office as a politician assumes their new or continuing role in government?

You really do have a skewed and badly biased view of anybody who doesn't think just like you do.

Being concerned about how the country is doing, where it's going, what standards it upholds, is not actually the same as hating. If you weren't so tied to your agenda, you'd likely be able to figure that out.

What do flags have to do with anything? Flags are idols, like any other symbol that's worshipped without much understanding of why.

And apparently, you are still unable to learn what the word "socialist" actually means. That's too bad, really, because it means you'll just have to go on mischaracterizing people in order to make your own point.

That's okay I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and you can continue to ignore all the former socialists that have been trying very hard to warn the left that the road they're on is a dead end.

I'm okay with it. Promissing to do your job is a bit different than promissing to be allegient to a piece of cloth.

...and of course you, like Schiff, can read minds and know what everybody REALLY thinks, no matter what they actually SAY?

As you say; don't be an offended snowflake.
