Well, ZensUrsula* is always of great concern.

They would have more serious problems without the EU.

And her connections and her cunning. She is tough as nails. She survived being Minister of Defence, which is a traditional career ender in Germany.

When you have nationalists running a government, of course they're going to be against the EU.

Like any government or any person, there have been some boneheaded EU decisions. Its also done some decent things.

But trying for a divorce is even more of a mess. In human terms when a couple files for divorce, it can be supremely messy. The Brits have learned that divorcing the EU makes an ordinary divorce mess look like a sunny, warm day in the park. The UK is tearing itself to bits over BREXIT.

A truer word was never spoken. Today, even Bozo's own brother resigned from his ministerial job and announced he was leaving politics.

Bozo is following the Trump playbook, lurch to the extremes, lie, and drag the party with you, eliminating all dissenting voices. Given that Labour has already lurched to the extreme left, thanks to the stupid decision by Miliband to allow party members to choose the leader, we have a dangerous situation in which moderate voices find it hard to gain traction.

The positive thing just now is the setting aside of party differences that seems to be happening in the drive to stop a no deal crash-out. If Bozo fails, the Tory party may come to its senses - in opposition.

But that is not the same as expressing "grave concern" on the grounds that she is German, which is what Bill Cash was doing. WW2 was 80 years ago and Germany has been a model world citizen ever since.

What about the Liberal Democrats? They seem like the most sensible party at this point.

What about France and the Yellow Vests?

The French economy has been underperforming for years. Unemployment, especially among the young, has been chronically high.

Macron has put himself forward as the saviour of the European project, which he claims is facing collapse unless he leads it into the next stage of integration – what he calls a ‘sovereign Europe’, ultimately in charge of finances, taxation, welfare, labour law and immigration.

Where will France and the EU go from here? The future is unpredictable, and it is not very bright.

When people feel they are no longer heard by the elites, protest becomes more vehement. We see it in various forms from Spain to Hungary. In France, it leads to burning cars and looted shops. In Britain, it leads to Brexit. France has once again provided us with a dramatic spectacle of what can happen when a political system implodes.

In Britain, too, we need to heed the warning. If people feel those in power despise them, sooner or later they react.

ROBERT TOMBS on how the French protests are a warning to Europe | Daily Mail Online

    Is Spain any better?

Being from Hong Kong, I understand well that
bigger central govt, less local power is not a good thing.

Of course, I also have read European history.

Strange that being in the EU did all these things seeing as, on average, the far right is far stronger in Europe than in the UK, and they are far less welcoming of immigrants.

It's almost as if (anonymous) just made up a self-righteous, maudlin paean that has no actual connection to reality whatsoever.

(also the idea that Scottish, Irish and Welsh 'retired their silly differences' with England is quite frankly a load of bollocks)

On Brexit, yes. But they are schizophrenic. They were (I think) an effective junior partner in the coalition with Cameron, but some of them never came to terms with the compromises that go with governing, as opposed to the comfort zone of complaining from the sidelines without having to make the hard choices. There is an element within the party that revels in dreaming up schemes that they know will never have to be implemented. So they punished their leader in the coalition - and now he works for Faecebook, of all things.

The Liberal Democrats want another EU referendum after breaking the rules in the last one.

Lib Dems 'broke referendum finance rules'

However, their new leader will not accept the democratic result if the people vote to leave again.

I cannot call them a sensible party.

Clearly if I were a Brit, I'd have to vote for Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel (Silly Party)
