Benjamin and the silver cup

The old testament is types, shadows ,and symbols of the new testament.
By truly understanding the grace of the old testament one understands the new covenant of grace in the new testament.
The silver cup of redemption.
Joseph's ten brothers were all born out of the efforts of man and not out of faith from the promises of God. Benjamin was the only other brother born (besides Joseph)that was born out of the mother of promise. He was referred to as the righteous young child.
The ten brothers persecuted Joseph, tore off his robe of many colors,, threw him in a ditch and plotted to kill him.Instead their greed took over and they sold Joseph to the Egyptians where Joseph became the right hand of the king. Joseph found grace and favor.
4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
Afterwards
Joseph was accused and thrown in prison yet he was innocent. There was the chief butler and baker. The chief baker was saved ..When Christ was crucified there was two thieves which one was saved.
After Josepth revealed Pharoahs dreams he was blessed by Pharaoh and made ruler.Pharaoh named him Zaphnathpaaneah which has various meaning as revealer of secrets, preserver of life, saviour of the world.
the land perish not through the famine.
37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
45 And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
(Jesus started his ministry at age 30)
The brothers came to Egypt for food and Joseph blessed them by returning their money in their money sacks even though they did not recognise their own. They worked in their own efforts yet Joseph blessed them because they were his own. Israel still do not recognize their own and the one who is blessing them. God blesses them but not by their efforts in the law. Only because of their faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God.
First words spoken to Benjamin from Joseph were words of grace. Grace means unmerited ,unearned and undeserved favour..
29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.
He spoke grace unto him because he was from the same mother of promise and that of faith not that of efforts of the flesh from the bond servants.
Leah or "Le’ah" in Hebrew means "weary". Assyrian language and means "ruler."
Also meaning that of law.

In other words, trying to follow the law makes you weary. If you try to obtain your blessings through the law, you will never make it. If you try to fulfill the law to be blessed, you will become tired because you have to depend on your own efforts.
The covenant of law came before the covenant of Grace
Grace is the law unveiled.
We also know that Leah came first and she is the one that was veiled.Grace was the unveiling of the law and Rachel came after Leah. The covenant of grace came after that of law.Jacob loved Rachel over Leah.

On the other hand, Rachel means "ewe" or "female sheep". Her name is a picture of grace. It is a picture of how we are favoured by God today because Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb of God, took our place on the cross. On that cross, Jesus exhausted the full wrath of God for us. He took our beating so that we can receive His blessings.
Today we can expect God’s blessing not because of what we have or have not done, but because of what He has done. That is grace!!!
(Josepth Prince)
Benjamin was from Rachel and his name means Righteous young child(or sons of his right hand). He had grace as Joseph gave him five times as much privisions and garments. Five is the number of grace. Benjamin did nothing to earn this grace.
Rachel tried to name him Ben-oni which means son of my sorrow. By grace Jacob named him Benjamin. Because of grace Jesus became the man of sorrows so we can become sons of his right hand or sons of righteousness.
The silver cup that was placed in Benjamin's money sack represents redemption.Silver represents redemption.
44 And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.
2 And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.
3 As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their *****.
4 And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?
5 Is not this it in which my lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth? ye have done evil in so doing.
We know that the cup that Jesus drank was that of fullfillment of the law and redemption of man. It was divine.
If you try to take the cup(fullfill the laws in your own efforts and not out of faith in righteousness from Jesus taking the cup who is divine)you will become weary in your own strength and miss the mark. Jesus came so you can rest your weary souls in him. Jesus's yoke is easy and his burden is light.
When the brothers went back to get their father Joseph told them not to even bring provisions for themselves. He provided all of their needs and brought them into great abundance no effort of their own.
When the children of Israel recognised the one who was blessing them in the story of Joseph how truly blessed they were and how truly blessed they will be when they recognize the one of their own who drank the cup of redemption.
Benjamin means the righteous son and represents grace.
Joseph is a type and shadow of Christ!
Any guesses on what the ten brothers could represent?

Do you think that only Christians can be saved?
This is my belief and opinion
I don't view Christianity as a religion.Only sinners can be saved.Jesus had extreme grace on sinners. He taught those who were forgiven much also loved much. He knew once a sinner was forgiven they would gladly trade in their
sorrow and pain for the joy of the Lord. They do not need the law as the conviction of love and the Holy Spirit went beyond the law.Instead of thou shall not steal you become one who feeds the poor. Instead of someone who does not cheat or commit adultery you become one who loves your wife so much you would lay your life down for her as Christ did the church etc....Noone who is free from the law of sin and death wants to return back to the bondage and chains.Christ came for the whole world.
Salvation comes to all who come to the end of their own efforts and admit they are fallen as sinners and reach out to God for help any way they know how.I don't think God is up there in heaven saying well you didn't say the right words or follow the right rituals so you will burn in hell.Even those in support groups and twelve step programs that come to the end of themselves and admit they are powerless touch the hem of grace .He is a God of love that sent his son to die for the world. He saved those in the old testament that fell by the law and were worthy of death yet they had faith. This is all the right hand side of God .
Their is a left side of God that is law and wrath and judgment. Many religions serve god from this side and they truly live and die by the sword.God offers his grace to all who will believe and except it but to continue in your own efforts and flesh is to continue in your bondage. It is faith that pleases the Lord.If you serve the Lord out of law from faith then your faith is still counted as righteousness. But if you serve out of your own selfrighteousness then you reject the salvation.
Man began in his own efforts when he fell in the garden and God told him by the sweat of his brow he would till the ground for food. Before the fall God was providing by grace and he wants to bring man back into the play of grace and back into the provision of God.God wants to bring man out of "doing" in his own effort to that perfect peaceful place of "being" a child of God.The only thing you can do to please God is to rest in him in faith. From here the works you produce are effortless works of love that brings life to yourself and others.
