God exists but is very bad news for humans to have to contend with.

God takes away ones freedom to act to ones one satisfaction on what is right or wrong, good or bad as duties. We humans are capable of looking after our own affairs without such guidance and imposition. It makes life more interesting if we make mistakes and try and resolve our problems by consulting each other and agreeing a joint path for mankind.

The correct method that works for me is to rely on my Consciousness to guide me as God does not insist that we subscribe to Him for our intelligence and wisdom. My Consciousness has always led me on the right path in terms of duties and righteous actions on a daily basis.

So I might as well be an atheist for all intents and purposes.

From what I see God allows us complete freedom to do as we please. All God does is send us a Prophet sometimes to offer us solutions for our problems but He never forces us to accept them.

We’ve had two great wars and all sorts of problems but God just leaves us alone to learn from our mistakes.

I think God is just letting us come to the conclusion that we need to consult with each about a path for humanity.

God is not letting us know anything: I have come to my own conclusions based on a 20 year search for the intentions of God in our daily lives. One must be free from this God-delusion that He wishes anything for us humans.

But aren't gods just tools we concoct to focus our minds during meditation or some other religious ritual; just utilitarian murtis?

It is for some. For those who have examined how this works out, it turns out to be a pointless excercise and prevents true living.

    You're quite the iconoclast.
Few people are religious scholars or theologians. Most people just live their lives, do their dharma and try to fit in.

Don't you think religious mythology and ancient traditions can be useful in one's spiritual development?

All gods are human creations and tailored to each person's particular take on matters of faith, imo.

Of course religious mythology and ancient traditions are vitally important in assisting one's spriritual development: how else will one know what to avoid?

No, a certain God does exist: have you tried ignoring Him/It?

Are you saying an actual God really exists, independent of the experiencer?
How would you square this dualism with advaita?

Easy: we live in an illusion of the True Reality.

    OK, then.
There is no actual God. S/He is an illusion.

Interesting statement of duality coming from one that identifies as "advaitin." Before I proceed, please remind me of what your "God" concept is.

I will try to update you on this:

The question of what God is somewhat complex to fathom: what one experiences as God appears to be Saguna Brahman who is available to humans in their psyche for consultation purposes aimed at human survival in the daily course of one's life from all the sources of persecution that require superhuman intelligence and wisdom. This means that if you want to consult the God He will make Himself available by his/its powers of transformation from Consciousness Brahman. If you do not wish to consult this God the Entity remains in the realm of Consciousness Brahman, and one does not then benefit from superhuman intelligence and wisdom.

A dwaitist (dualist) consults this Saguna God perennially and pays devotional reverences to Him. An advaitin does not consult this God and treats it just as transformed Brahman, something that exists and yet is ignored by the jivatman. This is because the advaitin favours full independence and non-attachment to any matter that confers duality upon his outlook. He seeks liberation/moksha.

So every person has to exert his choice of whether to be a dwaitist or an advaitist.

I did not say that there is no actual God: whether God 'appears' or not is up to the individual.

I'm not quite clear on what you mean by "actual," then.

Brahman exists as satchitananada, so God exists actually. The question is how God appears to exist to the individual jivataman. For the dualist, it is a Personal God guiding and directing him or her into his dharma. For an advaitin there is no Personal God, only Brahman as satchitananda.

I believe God is very bad news for the wicked no matter how much self righteousness they have.

I believe all you need to know is in the Bible. Looking for knowledge within your self doesn't work very well.
