Hello - Ive been studying all the eastern/Dharmic religions and have now come to Jainism. Im kind of confused about it. Are there any good beginner books that give a good overview of Jainism? Any good links or texts?

Thanks!

Wikipedia - Jainism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia quite comprehensive.

Mahavira was apostle of non-violence. He did not react even when children bloodied him. He was also the apostle of non-possessiveness. He even abandoned wearing clothes. The few thing that jain monks carry is a broom so that if they see an insect on ground, they can sweep it to the side of the road and not trample upon it, and a utensil for the food that people may give to them. The other thing they do is to cover their mouths with a piece of cloth so that no insect goes into their mouth and gets killed. They always travel barefoot. They are strict vegetarians and eat only once a day. Mahavira was (as I like to say) the Che Guevara of religions, a complete radical.
